GoHighLevel contacts to email list: DND set aside, repeats merged

In short: Reads a HighLevel contacts CSV, sets aside contacts with DND on (a blank or false DND is never read as consent), reads Additional Emails when asked, merges repeats with their tags combined and flags role addresses and likely domain typos. Limit: HighLevel doesn't publish its export column names, and the file has only the columns shown in the table; Email, Additional Emails and DND are found by name from an inferred list, so check the notes above the result.

Export the contacts from HighLevel with the DND column shown, and upload the CSV here. Contacts with DND on are set aside, repeated addresses are merged with their tags combined, phone-only contacts are counted, and likely typos such as gmial.com are flagged. Then check the send list live before the campaign goes out.

Price: this tool is free. Checking a whole email list is from $9/mo, and the first 100 checks are free with Google, no card. See pricing

How do I check the HighLevel contacts before the campaign goes out?

  1. Download the send list here.
  2. Upload it at /verify. Every address gets a live mailbox check, and valid, risky and invalid download as separate files. The first 100 email checks are free with a Google sign-in, no card.
  3. Import the valid file back into HighLevel with a tag, and build the campaign or workflow from that tag.
Check the addresses

How do I turn a GoHighLevel export into a clean email list?

  1. In HighLevel, open Contacts and pick the Smart List. Click Manage Fields and tick the columns to export, DND included: the CSV only has the columns shown in the table.
  2. Select the contacts, choose Export, then download the file from Bulk Actions when it's ready.
  3. Upload the CSV here, or paste it. Email, Additional Emails, DND and Tags are found by name.
  4. Download the send list and the set-aside file; each set-aside row says why.

Example

You enter
A HighLevel contacts export with 6 rows and a DND column: Ana twice (DND false on one copy, true on the other), Leo with DND true and an Additional Email, a gmial.com typo and a phone-only contact.
You get
2 contacts to send (the typo flagged), Ana and Leo set aside for DND, Ana's tags combined, and 1 contact counted as having no email.
Limits
Runs in your browser with no row cap; an uploaded file can be up to 25 MB.

How is the DND column read?

A DND value of true, yes, enabled or one naming email sets the contact aside, and a column such as DND Email is read the same way. A blank or false DND isn't read as permission: it only means nobody turned DND on. Whether you can email a contact still depends on how they came to you.

When the same address appears twice and either copy has DND on, the address is set aside.

Why check addresses that are already in the CRM?

HighLevel contacts come from funnels, ad lead forms, chat widgets and imports, and none of those check the inbox exists when the contact is created. Typos and throwaway addresses go in with the rest, and a campaign to them bounces on the sending domain every sub-account campaign shares. A live mailbox check finds them before the send.

Who uses this tool, and for what?

Agencies
Clean a client sub-account's contacts before a re-engagement campaign, DND honoured.
Coaches and local businesses
Pull the funnel leads that have an email and no DND, ready for a newsletter or offer.
Ops teams
Merge duplicate contacts' tags before moving a sub-account's list to another tool.

What can’t this tool tell you?

  • HighLevel doesn't publish its export column names, and the file has only the columns shown in the table; Email, Additional Emails and DND are found by name from an inferred list, so check the notes above the result.
  • A DND set only for SMS or calls in the app may export as a single DND column; the tool can't tell which channel it was for, so it sets the contact aside.
  • It can't tell which addresses have a working inbox today; that needs a live mailbox check.

Common questions

My export has no DND column. Why?
HighLevel exports only the columns visible in the Contacts table. Open Manage Fields, tick DND and export again; the notes above the result say when no opt-out column was found.
Does it read Additional Emails?
Only when you tick the option. Each extra address then becomes its own row, with the column it came from.
Is my contact list uploaded?
No. The file is read in your browser. Nothing is sent unless you choose to check the addresses afterwards.

Sources

A tidy list can still be full of dead addresses.

Extracting, deduplicating and syntax checks all work on the text of an address. None of them can tell whether the mailbox exists. Only the server that hosts it can answer that, through an SMTP check, and that is what the paid product does.

  • Upload the cleaned file as it is: CSVs up to 100,000 rows
  • A real SMTP mailbox check on every row, with catch-all detection
