Mobile digits count the national number after the country code. “Varies” means the country allows more than one international prefix; dialling + works from any mobile.
Check a number or a whole list
The free phone number validator checks one number against its country’s plan and gives its E.164 form. For a CSV, the verifier validates every row and checks the emails in the same file; the Email + Phone plan adds live carrier lookups for the real line type.
Common questions
- What is a country calling code?
- The one to three digits written after + that route a call to a country, such as +44 for the United Kingdom or +91 for India. Some codes are shared: +1 covers the United States, Canada and much of the Caribbean, and the next digits decide which one a number belongs to.
- What is the difference between the country code and the international prefix?
- The country code identifies the destination. The international prefix (or exit code) is what you dial first to leave your own country, such as 00 in most of Europe or 011 in North America. Writing + instead of the prefix works from any mobile phone, which is why stored numbers should start with +.
- What is a trunk prefix?
- A digit, usually 0, that is added in front of a number only when dialling inside the country. It is dropped when the number is written internationally: the UK's 07400 123456 becomes +44 7400 123456. Some countries, such as Italy and Spain, have no trunk prefix and keep every digit.
- How should phone numbers be stored in a CRM?
- In E.164: a + followed by the country code and national number, with no spaces or punctuation, at most 15 digits. It is unambiguous across countries and it is the format SMS gateways and dialers expect.
That was one number. Your CRM export has thousands.
This tool checks one number at a time. Cleaning a list means every row in E.164, invalid numbers separated out, and the emails beside them checked too.
- Upload a CSV up to 100,000 rows with an email or phone column
- Every phone gets status, E.164 format, country and line type
- Emails in the same file get a real SMTP mailbox check
