Gambia phone number format
How do you format a Gambia phone number?
Write a Gambia phone number with the country code +220. A mobile looks like 301 2345 inside the Gambia and +220 301 2345 from abroad. Mobiles have 7 or 9 digits after the country code, and the E.164 form is +2203012345. A format check confirms the digits fit the numbering plan, not that the number is in service.

Example Gambia phone numbers
These are the example numbers from Google’s libphonenumber data, the same numbering-plan data our validator uses, written three ways.
| Format | Mobile | Landline |
|---|---|---|
| National (inside the Gambia) | 301 2345 | 566 1234 |
| International | +220 301 2345 | +220 566 1234 |
| E.164 | +2203012345 | +2205661234 |
How to write a Gambia number in E.164
- Remove spaces, dashes, dots and brackets so only digits are left.
- The Gambia has no trunk prefix, so keep every digit of the national number.
- Put +220 in front. The result has 7 or 9 digits after the country code for a mobile.
So 301 2345 becomes +2203012345. E.164 is the format SMS gateways, dialers and most CRMs store; see the E.164 format explained for why.
Mobile or landline?
The Gambia allocates separate number ranges to mobiles and landlines, so a numbering-plan check reads the line type straight from the digits, for free. That type describes the range the number came from. It doesn’t prove the number is connected today.
Mobile, landline and special number ranges in Gambia
A Gambia mobile number starts with 2–9 after +220. Every valid number of each type below starts with one of the digit groups shown. A number that starts the right way can still be unassigned: the groups say what a range is for, not that a number is connected.
| Type | Starts with, after +220 | Digits | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mobile | 2–9 | 7 or 9 | +220 301 2345 |
| Landline (fixed line) | 42, 43, 441, 444–449, 553, 554, 566, 567, 571–574, 80–83, 88, 89 | 7 or 9 | +220 566 1234 |

Common questions
- What is the country code for the Gambia?
- The country calling code for the Gambia is +220. When you call the Gambia from abroad, dial your international prefix (or +) followed by 220 and the number.
- How many digits is a Gambia phone number?
- A Gambia mobile number has 7 or 9 digits after the country code +220, the same as a landline.
- How do I write a Gambia number in international format?
- Start with +220, then add the rest of the number. The mobile number 301 2345 becomes +220 301 2345, or +2203012345 in E.164, the form most CRMs and SMS tools expect.
- Can you tell if a Gambia number is a mobile?
- Usually, yes. Gambia numbers come from ranges allocated separately to mobiles and landlines, so a numbering-plan check reads the line type from the digits. It tells you what the range is for, not whether the number is in service.
- Does a valid format mean a Gambia number is in service?
- No. A valid format means the digits fit a range Gambia's numbering plan allocates. It cannot tell whether the number is connected today or who carries it, because numbers are reassigned and ported. A live carrier lookup reports the current carrier and line type, but even that does not prove someone answers.
- Can I check a list of Gambia numbers for free?
- Yes. Paste them in the list tab above or upload a CSV to the bulk phone number validator: E.164, country, format status and numbering-plan line type are free for every row, with no account. Live carrier and line-type lookups come with Pro + Phone at $49.99/mo (5,000 a month).
