Bulk phone number validator: check a whole list's format at once
A bulk phone number validator checks every number in a list against its country's numbering plan. Paste numbers or upload a CSV and each row gets a format verdict (valid, wrong length or unallocated prefix), its E.164 form, country, calling code and the line type its range was issued for. It runs in your browser and checks format only, not whether a line is in service.
Used for numbers written without a + country code.
Sample result
3 of 5 numbers pass the format check; 2 can't be dialled as written.

What this means for you
Fix or drop the invalid rows. Valid means the format fits the plan, not that the line is connected.
- Valid, wrong length or unallocated prefix
- E.164, country and calling code per row
- Line type range from the numbering plan
- 500 rows a run, 25,000 signed in; CSV

How to validate phone numbers in bulk
- Pick the default country. It's used only for numbers written without a + code, such as
(415) 555-0132. - Paste one number per line, or upload a CSV up to 25 MB; the phone column is found for you and your other columns are kept.
- Press Validate the numbers. Each row gets its format check, E.164 form, country and line type range.
- Download the full report, only the valid-format rows, or only the invalid ones to fix.
Example
- You enter
- A CSV with a phone column:
(415) 555-0132,+44 20 7946 0958,+44 7400 123456,+1 415 155 0132and12345, with United States as the default country. - You get
- Three pass the format check:
+14155550132(United States, mobile or landline),+442079460958(United Kingdom, landline) and+447400123456(United Kingdom, mobile).+1 415 155 0132is the right length but its prefix isn't allocated, and12345is the wrong length. Download the report, the valid rows or the invalid rows. - Limits
- Up to 500 rows a run without an account and 25,000 when signed in with Google; files up to 25 MB. It runs in your browser.
What does a valid phone number format mean?
It means the digits could be a real number in that country: the calling code exists, the length is right, and the prefix is in a range the country's numbering plan has allocated. Under the ITU's E.164 standard an international number is at most 15 digits, country code included, but each country sets its own lengths and ranges inside that. The validator checks every number against those per-country rules using libphonenumber, the open-source numbering-plan library Google maintains.
Valid is a statement about the format. It doesn't mean the number is connected, who holds it, or that anyone will answer. Nothing here contacts a phone network.
Why does a number fail the format check?
Two reasons, shown separately in the report. "Wrong length for the country" is usually a missing or extra digit, or a national number read with the wrong default country: (415) 555-013 is one digit short for a US number. "Right length, prefix not allocated" means the length could work but the plan has no range starting with those digits: +1 415 155 0132 fails because a US exchange can't start with 1. Made-up and mistyped numbers usually fail one of the two.
Numbers written in national form, like 07400 123456, are read with the default country you pick. If your list mixes countries, write numbers with their + code, or use the add or remove country code tool first.
What is the line type range?
It's the use the number's range was allocated for in the numbering plan: mobile, landline, toll-free, VoIP and so on. In most countries mobiles have their own prefixes, so the range is a good guide. In the US and Canada mobiles and landlines share area codes and exchanges, so those numbers show "mobile or landline". Ported numbers keep the type of their original range. The landline or mobile checker explains each type in detail.
Is my list uploaded?
No. The numbering-plan data loads into your browser and every number is checked there. Without an account the tool checks 500 rows a run; signing in with Google raises that to 25,000 rows. Either way, nothing you paste is sent to our servers.
Format check or carrier lookup: which does your list need?
| This validator (numbering plan) | Carrier lookup | |
|---|---|---|
| Answers | Can these digits exist in that country? | Which carrier holds this number now? |
| Line type | The type its range was issued for | The current line type, US included |
| Ported numbers | Type of the original range | Current carrier and type |
| Where it runs | In your browser | Sent to a data provider, paid per lookup |
Who uses this tool, and for what?
- SMS teams
- Drop numbers that can't be dialled as written before a campaign, so you don't pay to send to them.
- Sales ops
- Check a CRM export before a dialer runs and send the invalid rows back to whoever owns the data.
- Lead buyers
- Check the phone column of a purchased list for filler and made-up numbers before you pay for anything else.
- Developers
- Test what a form's stored numbers look like against libphonenumber's rules before adding validation to the form itself.
What can’t this tool tell you?
- It checks format and numbering-plan ranges only; it never contacts a network, so it can't say a number is connected or reachable.
- US and Canadian numbers can't be typed as mobile or landline from the digits.
- Ported numbers show the type of their original range.
- National-form numbers depend on the default country you pick.
- 500 rows a run without an account, 25,000 signed in.
Common questions
- How do I validate a list of phone numbers?
- Paste them one per line or upload the CSV here, pick the default country for numbers without a + code, and press Validate the numbers. Each row gets a format verdict, its E.164 form, country and line type range, and you can download the valid or invalid rows.
- How many numbers can I validate at once?
- 500 rows a run without an account, and 25,000 rows when you sign in with Google. The tool is free either way; signing in only raises the number of rows a run.
- Does valid mean the phone number is active?
- No. Valid means the number fits its country's numbering plan. A disconnected number keeps its format, so this check can't tell you a line is in service or who uses it.
- Can it validate international numbers in one list?
- Yes. Numbers written with a + or 00 country code are checked against their own country's plan, whatever default country you pick. Only numbers written in national form use the default.
- What's the difference between this and the phone number validator?
- The phone number validator explains one number in detail. This bulk validator runs the same numbering-plan check across a whole list or CSV and gives you a report to download.
- Can it tell if a US number is a mobile?
- No. US and Canadian mobiles and landlines share prefixes, so the numbering plan can't separate them, and those rows show "mobile or landline". That needs a carrier lookup.
Sources
The numbering plan only knows what a range was issued for.
In the US and Canada mobiles and landlines share the same prefixes, and anywhere a number can be ported or reassigned the range stops telling the whole story. A live carrier lookup asks the network data instead, which is what the Email + Phone plan adds.
- 5,000 live carrier lookups a month: real line type, including US numbers
- Carrier name for every number looked up
- Upload a CSV up to 100,000 rows; emails in the same file get a mailbox check
