GetResponse contacts to email list: active contacts cleaned, inactive ones as suppressions
In short: Reads a GetResponse contacts CSV or XLSX: one row per address with list names kept as labels and repeats across lists merged; a status or unsubscribe-reason column, when present, sets removed, unsubscribed and bounced contacts aside. Limit: GetResponse's help lists the exported data but not the exact column headings, and doesn't say how the inactive-contacts file labels status or unsubscribe reason; those columns are found by name, so check the notes above the result.
In GetResponse, go to Contacts > Search, click Advanced search, pick the lists and click Apply, then click the Actions icon next to the contact count and choose Export. Name the file, choose CSV or XLSX, keep Email address selected and click Export new file, then Download. GetResponse exports active contacts only and removes exports after 7 days. Upload the file here to get one clean email column with repeats across lists merged. Check it live before you send.
Price: this tool is free. Checking a whole email list is from $9/mo, and the first 100 checks are free with Google, no card. See pricing

How do I check the list before the next newsletter?
- Download the email list here.
- Upload it at /verify. Every address gets a live mailbox check, and valid, risky and invalid download as separate files; catch-all domains are marked. The first 100 email checks are free with a Google sign-in, no card.
- Send to the valid file, and keep the set-aside file as your suppression list.
How do I turn a GetResponse export into a clean email list?
- In GetResponse, go to Contacts > Search and click Advanced search.
- Open the list drop-down, pick the list or lists you want and click Apply.
- Click the Actions icon (vertical ellipsis) next to the total number of contacts, then Export. Name the file, choose CSV or XLSX and keep Email address, Name, List and Subscription details selected; add Tags if you want them.
- Click Export new file, then Download when it appears (exports older than 7 days are removed). Upload it here, or paste it.
Example
- You enter
- A GetResponse contacts export with 5 rows across three lists: Ana on two lists (once in capitals), an
info@address and agmial.comtypo, with subscription date, type, source and score columns. - You get
- 4 contacts in the list, Ana merged with both list names. The notes say GetResponse exports active contacts only; an inactive-contacts file would be set aside row by row.
- Limits
- Runs in your browser with no row cap; an uploaded file can be up to 25 MB.
Why is nobody set aside from my export?
GetResponse's contact export holds active contacts only, so a normal export has no unsubscribed or bounced rows to set aside. The same person on two lists appears twice; the copies are merged here with both list names kept.
Removed, bounced and unconfirmed contacts are listed under inactive on the Search contacts page, and GetResponse says the unsubscribe reason is available when you export inactive contacts. Upload that file too: rows with a removed, unsubscribed or bounced status or an unsubscribe reason are set aside, giving you a suppression list.
What about unconfirmed contacts?
Unconfirmed contacts haven't confirmed their subscription. In an inactive file they stay in the list marked Unknown; tick the subscribed-only option to set them aside.
Who uses this tool, and for what?
- Marketers
- Move GetResponse lists to another platform as one de-duplicated list.
- Agencies
- Merge a client's GetResponse lists and keep the inactive contacts as suppressions.
- Course creators
- Get a plain email column out of several GetResponse lists for a launch.
What can’t this tool tell you?
- GetResponse's help lists the exported data but not the exact column headings, and doesn't say how the inactive-contacts file labels status or unsubscribe reason; those columns are found by name, so check the notes above the result.
- Consent fields are named by you in GetResponse, so they're kept in the file but not read as consent.
- It can't tell which addresses have a working inbox today; that needs a live mailbox check.
Common questions
- Which GetResponse columns does it read?
- Email address, Name, List and Tags, plus a status or unsubscribe reason column when the file has one. GetResponse's own fields such as subscription date, type and source and score are recognised but not copied. The notes above the result say which were found.
- Can I upload the XLSX export?
- Yes. CSV and XLSX both work; the first sheet is read.
- Is my contact list uploaded?
- No. The file is read in your browser. Nothing is sent unless you choose to check the addresses afterwards.
Sources
A tidy list can still be full of dead addresses.
Extracting, deduplicating and syntax checks all work on the text of an address. None of them can tell whether the mailbox exists. Only the server that hosts it can answer that, through an SMTP check, and that is what the paid product does.
- Upload the cleaned file as it is: CSVs up to 100,000 rows
- A real SMTP mailbox check on every row, with catch-all detection
