Kit (ConvertKit) subscribers to email list: unsubscribed, bounced and complained set aside
In short: Reads a Kit subscriber CSV: Status sorted into confirmed (kept), unconfirmed (kept as unknown), unsubscribed (set aside) and bounced, complained or blocked (always set aside); tags kept, repeats merged. Limit: Kit's help lists the exported fields but not the exact column headings; the email and status columns are found by name, so check the notes above the result.
In Kit, go to Subscribers, click Status and choose Confirmed subscriber, tick the checkbox at the top of the list, click Select all, then choose the three dots and Export. Kit emails a download link that expires after five days. Upload the CSV here: unsubscribed subscribers are set aside, bounced, complained and blocked ones too, and repeats merge with their tags. Check what's left live before you send.
Price: this tool is free. Checking a whole email list is from $9/mo, and the first 100 checks are free with Google, no card. See pricing

How do I check the list before the next broadcast?
- Download the email list here.
- Upload it at /verify. Every address gets a live mailbox check, and valid, risky and invalid download as separate files; catch-all domains are marked. The first 100 email checks are free with a Google sign-in, no card.
- Send to the valid file, and keep the set-aside file as your suppression list.
How do I turn a Kit subscriber export into a clean email list?
- In Kit, go to Subscribers. To export a segment, open it from the right sidebar on the Subscribers page first.
- Click Status and choose Confirmed subscriber if you only want active subscribers, or leave every status in so the set-aside file doubles as a suppression list.
- Tick the checkbox at the top of the list, then click Select all so every subscriber is selected, not just the current page. Click the three dots, then Export.
- Download the file from the email Kit sends (the link expires after five days) and upload it here, or paste it.
Example
- You enter
- A Kit subscriber export with 7 rows:
StatusConfirmed, Unsubscribed, Bounced, Unconfirmed and Complained, Ana twice (once in capitals, different tags) and agmial.comtypo on a complained subscriber. - You get
- 3 subscribers in the list (Ana merged with tags
newsletter, buyer, webinar, Kim as Unknown for Unconfirmed), Leo set aside as unsubscribed, and Mia and Raj set aside as bounced or complained. - Limits
- Runs in your browser with no row cap; an uploaded file can be up to 25 MB.
How is each Kit status read?
Confirmed subscribers are kept; Kit counts only these toward billing and they are the only ones it lets you email. Unconfirmed subscribers signed up to a double opt-in form and never clicked the confirmation link, so they stay in the list marked Unknown; tick the subscribed-only option to set them aside.
Unsubscribed subscribers are set aside (untick the option to keep them). Bounced (a hard bounce), Complained (reported an email as spam) and Blocked (you blocked them) are always set aside, because Kit stops mailing all three.
What about cold subscribers?
Kit's cold subscribers are a subset of confirmed subscribers who haven't engaged for some time, and they still count as confirmed. They stay in the list. Cold isn't a deliverability verdict: a cold inbox may be fine or may have closed, which a live mailbox check tells apart.
Who uses this tool, and for what?
- Creators
- Move a Kit list to another platform without re-subscribing anyone who left or bounced.
- Newsletter writers
- Get a plain list of confirmed subscribers with tags kept for a one-off send.
- Agencies
- Clean a client's Kit export before a migration and keep a suppression file.
What can’t this tool tell you?
- Kit's help lists the exported fields but not the exact column headings; the email and status columns are found by name, so check the notes above the result.
- Cold isn't a column in the export, so cold subscribers can't be split out here; export a cold segment from Kit if you want them apart.
- It can't tell which addresses have a working inbox today; that needs a live mailbox check.
Common questions
- Which Kit columns does it read?
- The email address, first name, status and tags. Kit's help lists first name, email address, created date, status, tags, location, attribution data and custom fields as the exported data. The notes above the result say which columns were found.
- Why does my export only have one page of subscribers?
- Kit selects only the current page until you click Select all. If the link still reads Select all rather than Deselect all, export again after clicking it.
- Is my subscriber list uploaded?
- No. The file is read in your browser. Nothing is sent unless you choose to check the addresses afterwards.

A tidy list can still be full of dead addresses.
Extracting, deduplicating and syntax checks all work on the text of an address. None of them can tell whether the mailbox exists. Only the server that hosts it can answer that, through an SMTP check, and that is what the paid product does.
- Upload the cleaned file as it is: CSVs up to 100,000 rows
- A real SMTP mailbox check on every row, with catch-all detection
