Moving From Kit or beehiiv to systeme.io: Export the Right Statuses, Verify, Then Import
Export by status, keep only the confirmed subscribers who still engage, verify them, and import in tagged batches. Kit and beehiiv both hand you a CSV with a status column; systeme.io's migration guide tells you what to leave out (long-inactive, unsubscribed, spam reporters) and to run a verification tool before import. Because systeme.io plans are capped by contacts, every dead address you leave out is a slot you keep.

What each export gives you
| Kit | beehiiv | |
|---|---|---|
| Where | Subscribers, filter by Status, select all, three dots, Export | Settings, Export Data, Export Subscribers (basic or full) |
| Columns | First name, email, created date, status, tags, location, attribution, custom fields | Email, status, tier; full export adds custom fields and stats |
| Delivery | Emailed link, valid five days | Emailed link or Historical Exports, valid 24 hours |
| Bounces | Hard bounce sets Bounced and unsubscribes; soft bounce stays Confirmed | Status column; check the values in your file |
Step by step
- Export everything with status, not only the active view. You need the unsubscribed and bounced rows to keep them out.
- Split by status. Confirmed or active subscribers go forward. Bounced go nowhere. Unsubscribed can go in as Unsubscribed, never as subscribed. The suppression list merger combines bounced, complained and unsubscribed rows from both exports into one do-not-send file.
- Cut the long-inactive. systeme.io suggests 6 to 12 months without opens or clicks depending on how often you send; the inactive subscriber finder filters on a last-activity date.
- Verify the confirmed file on the verify page and drop the invalid results. Catch-all and unknown results are safer later in the warm-up than in the first send.
- Shape the CSV. One header row, UTF-8, under systeme.io's 50 MB limit. The CSV encoding fixer converts a file to UTF-8 if names show up garbled.
- Import in batches with tags. Add a source tag such as
migration_2026and your segment tags, starting with a small test batch. - Wait 24 to 48 hours, then ramp. Send first to the most active segment, and grow over days or weeks as systeme.io's guide suggests.
- Rebuild automations. systeme.io says Kit sequences and templates need recreating in its own builder.
What verification can't settle
Verification tells you whether an address can receive mail, not whether the person still wants yours; that's what the engagement cut in step 3 is for. Catch-all domains accept any address, and Microsoft consumer mailboxes often don't answer single-mailbox checks reliably, so some results come back risky or unknown. And consent doesn't come from a clean result: systeme.io asks that every imported address belongs to someone who explicitly agreed to receive your email.

Where SimpleVerifier fits
Verify the export on the verify page; the first 100 checks are free with a Google sign-in. Pro is $39 a month with the first 100,000 checks a month at full speed, then slower, never cut off. See pricing.
Common questions
Can I import my Kit tags into systeme.io?
Kit's export includes a tags column. systeme.io's import lets you add tags to the contacts in a file, so the practical route is one import per tag group (or per segment), with the tag applied at import. Check the result on a few contacts.
Should I bring unsubscribed subscribers across?
systeme.io's import guide lets you import them with an Unsubscribed status so they receive nothing and can't be re-added as subscribed by accident. Don't import them as subscribed, and leave bounced addresses out.
How long should I wait after importing before sending?
systeme.io's migration guide says 24 to 48 hours before a large campaign, then start with a small segment of active contacts and increase over several days or weeks.
Does systeme.io verify the addresses I import?
Its guides don't describe a mailbox check at import; they tell you to clean the list first and name verification tools as the way to do it.
Check your list before you send
Real mailbox checks over SMTP, and nothing is sent to the address. Sign in with Google and your first 100 email checks are free, no card. Plans for bigger lists are on the pricing page.
