Keap contacts to email list: opt-outs, non-marketable and hard bounces set aside
In short: Reads a Keap contacts CSV: the email status sorted into opt-outs (Opt-Out, List Unsubscribe, Reported SPAM, Non-marketable), bounces (Hard Bounce, Invalid) and contacts you can still email; Email 2 and Email 3 optional, repeats merged. Limit: Keap doesn't publish its export headings; the email and status columns are found by name from an inferred list, so check the notes above the result.
In Keap, open Contacts > People, tick Select All and choose Export at the bottom of the page. Up to 1,000 contacts download at once; above that Keap emails a download link that works for 24 hours. Upload the CSV here: opted-out, unsubscribed, spam-reported and non-marketable contacts are set aside, hard bounces and invalid addresses too, and repeats merge. Check what's left live before you send.
Price: this tool is free. Checking a whole email list is from $9/mo, and the first 100 checks are free with Google, no card. See pricing

How do I check the send list before the next campaign?
- Download the send list here.
- Upload it at /verify. Every address gets a live mailbox check, and valid, risky and invalid download as separate files; catch-all domains are marked. The first 100 email checks are free with a Google sign-in, no card.
- Send to the valid file, and keep the set-aside file as a suppression list.
How do I turn a Keap export into a clean email list?
- In Keap, go to Contacts and select People in the left navigation. Filter the list with a contact group if you only want some contacts.
- Tick Select All at the top of the list (or the contacts you want), then select Export at the bottom of the page.
- Up to 1,000 contacts, the CSV downloads straight away. Above 1,000, enter an email address, then open Download your export in the email within 24 hours; you need to be able to log in to Keap.
- Upload the CSV here. Download the send list and the set-aside file, and check the send list live before the campaign.
Example
- You enter
- A Keap contacts export with 7 rows and an
Email Statuscolumn: Confirmed, Unsubscribed (Opt-Out: Admin), Hard Bounce, Non-marketable, Unengaged Marketable, Soft Bounce and one contact with no email; Ana also has anEmail 2. - You get
- 3 contacts to send (Ana, Raj as Unengaged Marketable, Sam as Soft Bounce), Leo and Kim set aside as opted out or non-marketable, Mia set aside for the hard bounce, and 1 contact counted as having no email. Ticking the other-emails option adds Ana's Gmail as a row.
- Limits
- Runs in your browser with no row cap; an uploaded file can be up to 25 MB.
How is each Keap email status read?
Keap gives every address one email status. Opt-outs are always set aside: Unsubscribed (Opt-Out: Admin), List Unsubscribe, Provide Feedback, Reported SPAM and Opt Out: System. Non-marketable is set aside with them, because Keap uses it for contacts added without permission to send email marketing.
Hard Bounce and Invalid email are set aside as bounces (untick the bounce option to keep them). Confirmed, Unconfirmed, Soft Bounce and the two Un-engaged statuses stay in the send list, with the status in its own column so you can filter further.
Why aren't tags in the file?
Keap's contact export leaves out tags and notes. Keap Pro and Max can match exported contact IDs to tags with the Tag Tracker report, and notes come from the Task Note Report.
Who uses this tool, and for what?
- Small businesses
- Move a Keap list to another email tool with opt-outs honoured.
- Agencies
- Clean a client's Keap contacts before a migration or a campaign.
- Coaches
- Pull the people you can still email out of years of Keap contacts.
What can’t this tool tell you?
- Keap doesn't publish its export headings; the email and status columns are found by name from an inferred list, so check the notes above the result.
- Keap's export has no tags or notes, so the send list can't be split by tag here.
- It can't tell which addresses have a working inbox today; that needs a live mailbox check.
Common questions
- Which Keap columns does it read?
- Email (and Email 2 and Email 3 if you tick the option), the email status column, First Name, Last Name, Company and Phone. The notes above the result say which were found.
- Are Un-engaged contacts set aside?
- No. Un-engaged Marketable and Un-engaged Non-Marketable come from months without opens or clicks, not from an opt-out, so they stay in the send list with their status shown. A live mailbox check tells you which of those inboxes still exist.
- Is my contact list uploaded?
- No. The file is read in your browser. Nothing is sent unless you choose to check the addresses afterwards.
Sources
A tidy list can still be full of dead addresses.
Extracting, deduplicating and syntax checks all work on the text of an address. None of them can tell whether the mailbox exists. Only the server that hosts it can answer that, through an SMTP check, and that is what the paid product does.
- Upload the cleaned file as it is: CSVs up to 100,000 rows
- A real SMTP mailbox check on every row, with catch-all detection
