WEB.DE email checker: does this @web.de address exist?
In short: Checks a @web.de address for syntax, typo domains, mail servers and disposable or role use, then asks WEB.DE's mail server about the mailbox and says plainly when WEB.DE turned the check away. Limit: WEB.DE decides whether to answer a checking server; on days it refuses, results come back risky.
This WEB.DE email checker tests one @web.de address for broken syntax, typo domains, a missing mail server and disposable or role use, then asks WEB.DE's mail server whether the mailbox exists and disconnects before anything is sent. On 4 November 2026 WEB.DE rejected made-up addresses as not found; on days it refuses the checking server, results stay risky, never invalid.
Price: this tool is free. Checking a whole email list is from $9/mo, and the first 100 checks are free with Google, no card. See pricing
Tuned for web.de. Five checks a minute, no account needed. Nothing is sent to the address — we ask its mail server whether the mailbox exists, then disconnect.

How do I check a WEB.DE email address?
- Type or paste one address, such as
name@web.de. - Press Check. Syntax, domain, mail server, disposable and role checks run, then the tool asks WEB.DE's mail server about a random address that can't exist, and about yours, and disconnects before anything is sent.
- Read the verdict and the reason. "Mailbox not found" is WEB.DE's own no. "Server refused our check" or "Mailbox check unavailable" means WEB.DE turned the checking server away or didn't answer, which says nothing about the address.
- Check a risky address again later, and decide the rest by where it came from.
Example
- You enter
- One address:
made-up-x7qk2@web.de. - You get
- Invalid, with the reason "Mailbox not found", as on 4 November 2026 when WEB.DE answered our checks. On days WEB.DE refuses the checking server, the reason is "Server refused our check" and the result is risky, never invalid.
- Limits
- Five checks a minute per IP address, one address at a time, no account needed.
Can you check if a WEB.DE email address exists?
Often, but not on every day, and this tool tells you which kind of day it is. WEB.DE screens the server that connects before it discusses any recipient. In our verification study on 23 October 2026, mx-ha03.web.de refused our check in both rounds. On 4 November 2026 it answered instead: three made-up @web.de addresses each came back invalid, "Mailbox not found".
So the result means what it says. A rejection from WEB.DE is invalid; an acceptance counts as valid only if WEB.DE rejected a random address first; a refusal or no answer is risky, never invalid. The WEB.DE provider page has the live DNS and WEB.DE's own rules.
Is WEB.DE the same as GMX?
Same company, separate mail service. WEB.DE and GMX both belong to the United Internet group, and WEB.DE's imprint names 1&1 Mail & Media GmbH as the operator. They run different mail servers: on 4 November 2026 web.de published mx-ha02.web.de and mx-ha03.web.de, while GMX publishes hosts under gmx.net.
Their answers to a checking server have differed too: on 4 November 2026 GMX didn't answer our check, the same day WEB.DE did. For GMX addresses use the GMX address checker.
Why do old WEB.DE addresses need extra care?
WEB.DE's terms (section 5.3) let it delete the stored mail of a FreeMail account after six months with no login by browser, app or mail program, and after a year of inactivity release the address to other users. An old @web.de address on your list may now belong to someone else, which no verifier can see, so re-confirm consent for contacts gathered more than a year ago.
If you send to WEB.DE yourself, its postmaster requirements make a DKIM signature aligned with the From domain mandatory and say generic reverse DNS usually leads to rejection. To check a whole list, sign in and use the bulk verifier.
What can this checker confirm at WEB.DE?
Each row is something the check runs on a @web.de address, and the result you can get from it.
| Check | Can we confirm it? | Result when it fails |
|---|---|---|
| Syntax (the address is written correctly) | Yes | Invalid |
| Domain and mail server (MX) | Yes | Invalid, with a typo suggestion where one fits |
| Disposable or role address | Yes | Invalid (disposable) or risky (role) |
| The mailbox exists | Yes when WEB.DE answers, as on 4 November 2026 | Invalid, "Mailbox not found"; risky when WEB.DE refuses the check |
| The address still belongs to the same person | No checker can | Use recent engagement or a small first send |
Mailbox behaviour as measured in our verification study on 23 October 2026 (refused) and our checks on 4 November 2026 (answered).
Who uses this tool, and for what?
- List owners with German contacts
- Find the @web.de rows WEB.DE itself says don't exist before a send, and keep the unconfirmed ones apart.
- Support teams
- Catch a mistyped or closed WEB.DE address on a signup before you reply to it.
- Anyone comparing verifiers
- See why a WEB.DE result can change between days: the provider decides whether it answers a checking server.
What can’t this tool tell you?
- WEB.DE decides whether to answer a checking server; on days it refuses, results come back risky.
- It can't tell whether WEB.DE has released an old address to a new owner.
- It covers @web.de only. GMX and mail.com addresses, from the same group, behave differently.
- One address at a time, five a minute.
Common questions
- How do I check if a WEB.DE email address exists?
- Paste it into the checker above. It asks WEB.DE's mail server whether the mailbox exists and disconnects before anything is sent. On 4 November 2026 WEB.DE rejected made-up addresses as not found, so a missing mailbox came back invalid.
- Why does my WEB.DE address come back risky?
- Usually because WEB.DE refused or didn't answer our checking server, as it did in our 23 October 2026 study. A refusal says nothing about the address, so the checker reports risky rather than guessing. Try again later.
- Is web.de the same as gmx.de?
- Both belong to the United Internet group, but they are separate services on separate mail servers: web.de uses mx-ha02 and mx-ha03.web.de. On 4 November 2026 WEB.DE answered our checks while GMX didn't.
- Can a WEB.DE address be given to someone else?
- Yes. WEB.DE's terms say that after a year of inactivity it may release the address and give it to other users, so an old @web.de address may now reach a different person.
- Is the WEB.DE checker free?
- Yes, five checks a minute with no account. For a whole list, sign in with Google for 100 free email checks, no card, or use a paid plan.
