GMX address checker: what can and can't be confirmed

This GMX address checker tests a gmx.com, gmx.net or gmx.de address for broken syntax, typo domains, a missing mail server and disposable or role use, without sending anything. The mailbox step usually can't run: GMX refused our checking connection before the mailbox question in our 23 October 2026 study, so those results come back unconfirmed (risky), never valid or invalid.

Tuned for gmx.com, gmx.net, gmx.de, gmx.at, gmx.ch. Five checks a minute, no account needed. Nothing is sent to the address — we ask its mail server whether the mailbox exists, then disconnect.

name@gmx.com passes every check that can run, but GMX refused the mailbox check.

What this means for you

A refusal is about the checker, not the address, so it stays risky.

Next step:Verify a whole list
  • Catches typo domains with no mail server
  • Flags disposable and role addresses
  • Says when GMX refuses the check
  • Covers gmx.com, gmx.net and gmx.de

How do I check a GMX email address?

  1. Type or paste one address, such as name@gmx.com, name@gmx.net or name@gmx.de.
  2. Press Check. Syntax, domain, mail server, disposable and role checks run, then the tool tries GMX's mail server and disconnects before anything is sent.
  3. Read the verdict and the reason. "Server refused our check" or "Provider is blocking our checks; not probed" means GMX turned the checking server away, which says nothing about the address.
  4. Decide risky GMX addresses by where they came from, and send old ones a small first batch.

Example

You enter
One address: name@gmx.com.
You get
Usually risky, with the reason "Server refused our check" (or "Provider is blocking our checks; not probed" after repeated refusals): GMX turned the checking server away before the mailbox question, which says nothing about the address. Broken syntax, a dead domain or a disposable domain comes back invalid.
Limits
Five checks a minute per IP address, one address at a time, no account needed.

Can you check if a GMX email address exists?

Usually not from a checking server, and this tool says so instead of guessing. GMX screens the connecting server before it discusses any recipient: in our verification study on 23 October 2026, mx01.gmx.net refused our check in both rounds, and on 13 October gmx.de refused at the greeting citing a "Bad DNS PTR resource record". That refusal is about the checker, so the result is risky ("Server refused our check"), never invalid.

If GMX does answer on a given day, the check reads the reply like any other: a rejected mailbox is invalid, and an acceptance only counts as valid if a made-up address was rejected first. The GMX provider page has the DNS, the two server groups and GMX's own rules.

Are gmx.com, gmx.net and gmx.de the same service?

Same brand, two sets of servers. gmx.com, gmx.us, gmx.co.uk and gmx.fr publish mx00/mx01.gmx.net, while gmx.net, gmx.de, gmx.at and gmx.ch publish mx00/mx01.emig.gmx.net. GMX belongs to the same company as WEB.DE and mail.com, and all three sent the same reverse DNS refusal to our checker.

GMX's terms also say messages may be deleted after 6 months with no login, and after a year the address can be released to other customers. So an old GMX address on a list may now belong to someone else, which no verifier can see.

What should I do with GMX addresses on a list?

Keep the rows that fail syntax, domain or disposable checks out, and treat the rest as unconfirmed. For a whole file, sign in and use the bulk verifier: GMX rows land in risky with the reason shown, separate from rows that were confirmed.

Providers that answer one mailbox at a time are easier: the Gmail address checker gets a clear valid or invalid from Google, and the Yandex address checker does the same for Yandex.

What can this checker confirm at GMX?

Each row is something the check runs on a GMX address, and the result you can get from it.

Who uses this tool, and for what?

List owners with European contacts
Separate broken and throwaway GMX rows from the ones that are only unconfirmed, before a send to a German or Austrian list.
Support teams
Catch a mistyped GMX address on a signup before you reply to it.

What can’t this tool tell you?

  • It usually can't confirm that a GMX mailbox exists. Those come back risky.
  • It can't tell whether GMX has released an old address to a new owner.
  • GMX's acceptance of checking servers can change; this page states what we measured in October 2026.
  • One address at a time, five a minute.

Common questions

Why does my GMX address come back risky?
Because GMX refused our checking server before the mailbox question, which it does to servers it hasn't accepted. A refusal says nothing about the address, so the checker reports risky rather than guessing valid or invalid.
Can the checker say a GMX address is invalid?
Yes, for what it can check: broken syntax, a typo domain with no mail server, or a disposable domain, and a mailbox GMX itself rejects if it answers. It never turns a refused check into invalid.
Is gmx.de the same as gmx.com?
Both are GMX Mail, but they use different mail servers: gmx.com uses mx00 and mx01.gmx.net, gmx.de and gmx.net use mx00 and mx01.emig.gmx.net. Both refused our checking server in October 2026.
Can a GMX address be given to someone else?
GMX's terms say that after a year without a login it may release the address to other customers, so an old GMX address on a list may now reach a different person.
Is the GMX checker free?
Yes, five checks a minute with no account. For a whole list, sign in with Google for 100 free email checks, no card, or use a paid plan.
