Smartlead leads to email list: a suppression file and the leads safe to re-use
In short: Reads a Smartlead leads CSV: status (completed, stopped, blocked), lead category (Interested, Meeting Request, Not Interested, Do Not Contact, Wrong Person), is_unsubscribed and reply_count; bounced and unsubscribed always set aside, replied and not-interested by choice. Limit: Smartlead doesn't publish its CSV export headings; status, category, is_unsubscribed and reply_count are inferred from its API and help pages, so check the notes above the result.
Download the leads from a Smartlead campaign as CSV and upload it here. Bounced, unsubscribed, blocked and Do Not Contact leads always go to the suppression file; leads who replied, are interested or said no go there too by default, so they don't get a cold sequence again. The rest are the leads safe to re-use. Check them live before the next campaign.
Price: this tool is free. Checking a whole email list is from $9/mo, and the first 100 checks are free with Google, no card. See pricing

How do I check the reusable leads before the next campaign?
- Download the reusable leads here.
- Upload them at /verify. Every address gets a live mailbox check, and valid, risky and invalid download as separate files; catch-all domains are marked. The first 100 email checks are free with a Google sign-in, no card.
- Import only the valid file into the new campaign.
How do I build a suppression list from a Smartlead export?
- In Smartlead, open the campaign and go to the Lead list. Filter by status or lead category if you like, then click Download as CSV. For bounces, the campaign's Inbox filtered by Bounced downloads the same way.
- Upload the CSV here, or paste it. Several campaign exports can be pasted one after another; repeats merge.
- Choose what to set aside besides bounces and unsubscribes: replied or interested (on), not interested (on), risky verification, role addresses.
- Download the reusable leads and the suppression file. Add the suppression file to every other tool you send from.
Example
- You enter
- A Smartlead leads download with 7 rows:
statusCOMPLETED, STOPPED, BLOCKED and INPROGRESS,categoryMeeting Request, Not Interested and Out Of Office,is_unsubscribedtrue on one lead andreply_counton two. - You get
- 3 leads safe to re-use (the Out Of Office lead stays open) and a 4-lead suppression file: unsubscribed, blocked, the meeting request and the not-interested reply.
- Limits
- Runs in your browser with no row cap; an uploaded file can be up to 25 MB.
Why set aside leads with a reply count?
A reply_count above zero means the lead wrote back, even if nobody gave the reply a category yet. Someone who answered is past the cold stage, so they're set aside to start and you can handle them by hand; untick the option to keep them.
Bounced, unsubscribed, blocked and Do Not Contact leads are always set aside, whichever column says so.
Is a completed lead still safe?
Completed only means the sequence ran out of steps without a bounce. Work inboxes close when people change jobs, so a lead that finished a sequence months ago can bounce now. A live mailbox check finds the ones that closed before they count against your sending domains.
Who uses this tool, and for what?
- Cold email agencies
- Carry one client's suppression list from Smartlead into the next workspace or sequencer.
- SDRs
- Recycle leads that never answered into a new angle, without bounces and the people who said no.
- Founders
- Keep one suppression list across Smartlead, Instantly and your CRM.
What can’t this tool tell you?
- Smartlead doesn't publish its CSV export headings; status, category, is_unsubscribed and reply_count are inferred from its API and help pages, so check the notes above the result.
- Out of Office replies are left as open leads; they didn't answer you.
- It can't tell which addresses have a working inbox today; that needs a live mailbox check.
Common questions
- Which Smartlead columns does it read?
- The email, a status column, the lead category, is_unsubscribed, is_bounced and reply_count when present, and a verification column if one is there. The notes above the result say which were found.
- Can I combine exports from several campaigns?
- Yes. Paste them one after another or combine them first; the same address merges, and the strongest reason to suppress it wins.
- Is my lead list uploaded?
- No. The file is read in your browser. Nothing is sent unless you choose to check the addresses afterwards.

A tidy list can still be full of dead addresses.
Extracting, deduplicating and syntax checks all work on the text of an address. None of them can tell whether the mailbox exists. Only the server that hosts it can answer that, through an SMTP check, and that is what the paid product does.
- Upload the cleaned file as it is: CSVs up to 100,000 rows
- A real SMTP mailbox check on every row, with catch-all detection
