Squarespace subscribers to email list: ready to import anywhere
In short: Reads the subscribed CSV from a Squarespace mailing list export (Lists & Segments > Export) or a contacts/profiles export, reads Accepts Marketing or a subscription column when there is one, merges repeats and keeps names and lists. Limit: Squarespace doesn't document the CSV headers; columns are found by name, so check the notes above the result.
To move subscribers out of Squarespace, open Marketing > Email campaigns > Lists & Segments, choose Export from the menu next to a list and unzip the download. Upload the subscribed CSV here (or a contacts export with an Accepts Marketing column): repeats merge, anyone not accepting marketing is set aside, and you get one clean file to import.
Price: this tool is free. Checking a whole email list is from $9/mo, and the first 100 checks are free with Google, no card. See pricing

How do I check the Squarespace list before importing it?
- Download the import list here.
- Upload it at /verify. Every address gets a live mailbox check, and valid, risky and invalid download as separate files. The first 100 email checks are free with a Google sign-in, no card.
- Import the valid file into your new email platform.
How do I export subscribers from Squarespace?
- In Squarespace, open Marketing > Email campaigns > Lists & Segments, click the menu next to a list or segment and choose Export. The .zip holds three CSVs: subscribed, unsubscribed and cleaned.
- Upload the subscribed CSV here, or paste it. A contacts or profiles export with an Accepts Marketing column works too.
- Choose: set aside contacts who aren't accepting marketing (on to start), or keep only contacts marked as accepting it.
- Download the import list and the set-aside file with the reason per address.
Example
- You enter
- A Squarespace contacts export with 6 rows and an Accepts Marketing column: Kim twice (once in capitals), Leo with
No, and three others withYes. - You get
- 4 in the import list, Kim merged into one row with lists
Newsletter, Workshop; Leo set aside as not accepting marketing. The notes say consent was read from theAccepts Marketingcolumn. - Limits
- Runs in your browser with no row cap; an uploaded file can be up to 25 MB.
What are the subscribed, unsubscribed and cleaned files?
Squarespace's help says a mailing list export downloads a .zip with three CSVs. Subscribed is who you can mail. Unsubscribed opted out: load it into your new tool's suppression list, never into the audience. Cleaned holds addresses Squarespace stopped mailing after they bounced; import those as suppressed too, or they bounce again on your new sender.
Only the subscribed file belongs in this tool's output. If you upload one of the other two, every row is kept, because those files have no status column to tell them apart.
What does Accepts Marketing mean?
On Squarespace contact profiles, an Accepts Marketing label means you can reach that person with an email campaign, according to Squarespace's help on managing customers. Customers who checked out without ticking the newsletter box don't have it. When your file has that column, contacts showing No are set aside; tick "keep only accepting" to set aside blanks too.

What can’t this tool tell you?
- Squarespace doesn't document the CSV headers; columns are found by name, so check the notes above the result.
- The cleaned and unsubscribed files can't be told apart from the subscribed one by their columns; upload only the subscribed file.
- Squarespace cleans an address only after a campaign bounced; addresses never mailed are unchecked.
- It can't tell which addresses still have a working inbox.
Common questions
- Can I export the Form Submitters segment?
- No. Squarespace's help says every smart segment can be exported except Form Submitters. Export form entries from the form's storage (for example a Google Sheet) and use the form responses tool instead.
- Does it work with a Squarespace store customer export?
- Yes, if the file has an Email column. A marketing or subscription column is read when there is one; without it every customer is kept and the notes say so.
- Are repeated addresses merged?
- Yes, one row per address, with lists combined. A No or unsubscribed on any copy wins.
- Is my list uploaded?
- No. It is read in your browser. Nothing is sent unless you choose to check the addresses afterwards.

A tidy list can still be full of dead addresses.
Extracting, deduplicating and syntax checks all work on the text of an address. None of them can tell whether the mailbox exists. Only the server that hosts it can answer that, through an SMTP check, and that is what the paid product does.
- Upload the cleaned file as it is: CSVs up to 100,000 rows
- A real SMTP mailbox check on every row, with catch-all detection
