Remove blank rows from a CSV: empty lines, comma-only lines and rows with no email
In short: Finds the three kinds of blank row a spreadsheet export leaves (empty lines, ,,,, lines and space-only lines), optionally N/A and dash placeholders, and rows where a chosen column such as email is empty. Keeps the delimiter and row order; downloads the clean file and a log of what was removed. Limit: It doesn't judge content: a row with only a name is kept unless you tick a column that must be filled.
Paste or upload the CSV and press Remove blank rows. Empty lines, lines that are only commas and lines that are only spaces are removed; tick a column such as email to also drop rows where it's blank. The file keeps its delimiter and row order, and the removed rows download separately so you can check them.
Price: this tool is free. Checking a whole email list is from $9/mo, and the first 100 checks are free with Google, no card. See pricing

How do I clean the addresses, not only the rows?
- Remove the blank rows here and download the file.
- Upload it at /verify. Every address gets a live mailbox check, and valid, risky and invalid download as separate files. The first 100 email checks are free with a Google sign-in, no card.
- Import the valid file into your email platform or CRM.
How do I delete empty rows in a CSV file?
- Paste the CSV or upload the file (up to 25 MB). The header row is kept.
- Choose whether N/A, null and a lone dash count as blank, whether to trim spaces, and whether to drop columns that are empty everywhere.
- Press Remove blank rows. To also drop rows with no email, pick Also rows where any chosen column is blank and tick the email column.
- Download the cleaned CSV, and the removed rows if you want a record of what went.
Example
- You enter
- A CSV with a header and 8 lines: an empty line, a
,,line, a line of spaces, anN/A,-,N/Aline and four contacts, two of them with one blank field. - You get
- 3 rows removed (1 empty line, 1 commas only, 1 spaces only) and 5 kept, the four contacts and the placeholder line, with the comma delimiter and order unchanged. With N/A counted as blank, the placeholder line goes too and 4 are kept.
- Limits
- Runs in your browser with no row cap; an uploaded file can be up to 25 MB.
Why does my CSV have blank rows Excel doesn't show?
A row can look empty and not be. A spreadsheet that had data deleted (not the rows themselves) exports lines of only commas, ,,,,; a cell with a space or a non-breaking space exports as a row that looks blank but isn't; and some exports put an empty line between records or at the end. Importers treat each one as a contact with no email and either reject the file or create empty records.
This tool reads every row and removes the three shapes: a truly empty line, a line of only delimiters and a line of only whitespace, including non-breaking and zero-width spaces. Placeholders such as N/A, null or - only count when you tick the option, since in some columns they mean something.
How do I remove rows where the email column is empty?
Pick Also rows where any chosen column is blank and tick the email column. A row with a name and company but no address is dropped; the removed rows download with their line numbers so you can find the missing addresses elsewhere. All chosen columns blank does the opposite: it keeps a row as long as one of the chosen columns, say email or phone, has a value.
In Excel the same job is a filter on the column for (Blanks), select the visible rows, delete, then clear the filter. It works, but it misses cells that hold a single space, and on a large file it's slow.
Is this faster than deleting blank rows in Excel?
| This tool | Excel (Go To Special, Blanks) | |
|---|---|---|
| Fully empty lines | Removed | Removed if you select whole rows |
| Lines of only commas | Removed | Open as blank rows; removed with the rest |
| Rows of only spaces | Removed | Missed: a space isn't a blank cell |
| Rows blank in one column | Removed when you tick the column | Filter (Blanks), delete visible rows |
| Delimiter and quotes | Kept as in the file | Re-saved with Excel's settings; leading zeros can be lost |
Who uses this tool, and for what?
- Marketing ops
- Strip the empty and comma-only lines that make an ESP import fail or create blank contacts.
- Cold emailers
- Drop every lead with no email before the file goes into the sequencer.
- Developers
- Clean a CSV export before a script or database import chokes on empty records.
What can’t this tool tell you?
- It doesn't judge content: a row with only a name is kept unless you tick a column that must be filled.
- Rows with more cells than the header are kept as they are; extra cells aren't checked.
- A file with no header row loses nothing, but its first line is treated as the header.
- It removes empty rows, not addresses that bounce. That needs a mailbox check.
Common questions
- Does it change any other row?
- Only if trimming is on, which removes spaces at the start and end of a cell. Order, delimiter and every other value stay as they were.
- Can it remove empty columns too?
- Yes. Tick Also remove columns that are blank in every row; the removed column names are listed.
- Will it remove duplicate rows?
- No. Use remove duplicate emails or the duplicate contact finder for that.
- Is my file uploaded?
- No. It's read in your browser.
A tidy list can still be full of dead addresses.
Extracting, deduplicating and syntax checks all work on the text of an address. None of them can tell whether the mailbox exists. Only the server that hosts it can answer that, through an SMTP check, and that is what the paid product does.
- Upload the cleaned file as it is: CSVs up to 100,000 rows
- A real SMTP mailbox check on every row, with catch-all detection
