Orange email checker: orange.fr and wanadoo.fr
In short: Asks Orange's own mail server whether an orange.fr or wanadoo.fr mailbox exists, without sending anything, after syntax, domain, disposable and role checks, and says plainly when Orange defers the check. Limit: Orange doesn't answer every check: a deferral comes back risky, not valid or invalid.
This Orange email checker tests an orange.fr or wanadoo.fr address for broken syntax, typo domains, a missing mail server and disposable or role use, then asks Orange's mail server about the mailbox at RCPT TO and disconnects before sending. Orange rejected a made-up address with 550 5.1.1 on 12 October 2026, which comes back invalid; on 8 November it deferred our check, which comes back risky.
Price: this tool is free. Checking a whole email list is from $9/mo, and the first 100 checks are free with Google, no card. Check your list free nowSee pricing

How do I check a whole list of Orange addresses?
- Export the list as a CSV or copy the email column; Orange rows and every other domain can go in together.
- Upload or paste it at /verify. The first 100 email checks are free with a Google sign-in, no card.
- For every list after that, Pro includes unlimited email verification. Fair use: the first 100,000 checks a month at full speed, then slower, never cut off.
How do I check an Orange email address?
- Type or paste one address, such as
[email protected]or[email protected]. - Press Check. Syntax, domain, mail server, disposable and role checks run, then Orange's server is asked about a random address that can't exist, and about yours, and the tool disconnects before anything is sent.
- Read the verdict. Invalid means Orange said the mailbox doesn't exist, or the address failed an earlier check. Valid means Orange accepted it and rejected the made-up one. Risky means Orange didn't give a clear answer this time.
- If it comes back risky with "Server would not confirm", check again later: a deferral is about the check, not the address.
Example
- You enter
- One address:
[email protected]. - You get
- Valid when Orange accepts the mailbox after rejecting a random address; invalid ("Mailbox not found") when it answers
550 5.1.1 … Invalid recipient; risky ("Server would not confirm") when Orange defers the check, as it did on 8 November 2026. - Limits
- Five checks a minute per IP address, one address at a time, no account needed.
Can you check if an Orange email address exists?
Often, yes. On 8 November 2026 orange.fr and wanadoo.fr both published the MX hosts smtp-in.orange.fr and smtp-in2.orange.fr. When our checking server offered a made-up address on 12 October 2026, Orange answered at RCPT TO with 550 5.1.1 Adresse d au moins un destinataire invalide. Invalid recipient. OFR_416, a clear no. That comes back invalid ("Mailbox not found").
Orange doesn't always answer. When we re-ran a made-up address through this checker on 8 November 2026, Orange deferred the check instead, which is how greylisting and temporary errors look. A deferral says nothing about the mailbox, so it comes back risky with "Server would not confirm", never invalid. The Orange provider page has the live DNS snapshot.
Are orange.fr and wanadoo.fr the same?
Yes for checking purposes. Wanadoo was Orange's earlier internet brand, both domains use the same two mail servers, and Orange's postmaster page sets one set of rules for @orange.fr and @wanadoo.fr together. The checker treats them as one provider.
The same postmaster page names 416 User doesn't exist here as a reason to remove an address from your list, requires SPF, DKIM and DMARC from senders, and warns that a spam-report rate of 0.6% or more can trigger protection. Old, unconfirmed Orange contacts push both bounces and complaints up.
What should I do with Orange addresses that come back risky?
Check them again later first: with Orange, risky usually means a deferred check, and a second try often gets a real answer. If an address stays risky, let its source decide. A contact who signed up on your own form recently is a reasonable send; one from an old or bought list is not.
For other French providers, the email checker runs the same live check on any domain; the Free, SFR and La Poste provider pages say what their servers answered.
What can this checker confirm at Orange?
Each row is something the check runs on an Orange address, and the result you can get from it.
| Check | Can we confirm it? | Result when it fails |
|---|---|---|
| Syntax (the address is written correctly) | Yes | Invalid |
| Domain and mail server (MX) | Yes | Invalid, with a typo suggestion where one fits |
| Disposable or role address | Yes | Invalid (disposable) or risky (role) |
| The mailbox exists | Yes when Orange answers (550 5.1.1 Invalid recipient) | Invalid, "Mailbox not found" |
| Orange defers the check | No answer to read | Risky, "Server would not confirm"; check again later |
| Someone reads the inbox | No checker can | Use opens, replies or a small first send |
Our checking server offered a made-up address and disconnected without sending, on 12 or 13 October 2026 and again through this checker on 8 November 2026.

What can’t this tool tell you?
- Orange doesn't answer every check: a deferral comes back risky, not valid or invalid.
- A valid result shows Orange accepted the mailbox today, not that anyone reads it.
- Orange doesn't publish how its servers answer mailbox checks; the handling here is from our own checks, which can change.
- One address at a time, five a minute.
Common questions
- How do I check if an orange.fr email address is valid?
- Enter it here. The checker confirms syntax, mail servers and disposable or role use, then asks Orange's server about the mailbox without sending. A rejection comes back invalid, an acceptance valid, and a deferral risky.
- Why did my Orange address come back risky?
- Most often because Orange deferred the check, as it did with our made-up test address on 8 November 2026. A deferral is about the checking connection, not the mailbox. Check again later before you drop the address.
- Is a wanadoo.fr address still an Orange address?
- Yes. wanadoo.fr uses the same Orange mail servers as orange.fr, and Orange's postmaster rules cover both domains together.
- What does OFR_416 mean in an Orange bounce?
- It is Orange's own reference on a rejection for an invalid recipient. Orange's postmaster page lists 416 User doesn't exist here as a reason to remove the address from your list.
- Is this checker free?
- Yes, five checks a minute with no account. For a whole list, sign in with Google for 100 free email checks, no card, or use a monthly plan.
