Lead list time zone splitter: one file per time zone for your campaigns

In short: Gives each lead a time zone from its state or province, its phone number's area code or country code, or its country, then splits the CSV into one file per zone with the local time now. Limit: A state or country that spans zones gets its most populous one.

A lead list time zone splitter gives every lead a time zone and splits the list into one file per zone. Upload the CSV: the zone comes from the state or province column, then the phone number's area code (NANPA) or country code, then the country. Load each file into its own campaign with that zone in its schedule, so every lead gets mail in their working hours.

Price: this tool is free. Checking a whole email list is from $9/mo, and the first 100 checks are free with Google, no card. See pricing

The right hour won't save a bounce

  1. A bounce counts against the sending inbox at any hour, so check the leads before the campaigns start.
  2. Upload each zone's file at /verify for a live mailbox check on every address.
  3. The first 100 email checks are free with a Google sign-in, no card.

How do I segment leads by time zone?

  1. Upload or paste a lead CSV with a header row and a state, phone or country column; any of the three is enough.
  2. Press Split by time zone. The state is read first, then the phone number, then the country.
  3. Read the zones with their lead counts and local time now, and the rows where no zone was found.
  4. Download one file per zone, or every row with time_zone columns added, and set each campaign's schedule to its zone.

Example

You enter
An 8-row CSV with state, phone and country: NY, California, (312) 555-0142, TX, +44 20 7946 0958, Ontario, Germany and one row with nothing.
You get
America/New_York (NY), America/Los_Angeles (California), America/Chicago (area code 312 and Texas, marked as spanning zones), Europe/London (+44), America/Toronto (Ontario), Europe/Berlin (Germany); 1 row with no zone. One file per zone.
Limits
Runs in your browser with no row cap; an uploaded file can be up to 25 MB.

How is each lead's time zone found?

In three steps, the first that answers wins. A US state, Canadian province or Australian state, written as a code or a name, maps to its zone. A North American phone number maps by area code to the zone in NANPA's area code database; a number with another country code maps to that country's zone. Finally the country column, by name or ISO code. Zones are named the IANA way (America/Chicago), which is what sequencers' schedule settings list.

Some states and countries span more than one zone: Texas, Florida, Tennessee, Indiana, Ontario, Australia, Brazil and others. Those leads go to the most populous zone and are marked in the zone_spans_more_than_one column, so you can check them by city if timing matters.

Why split a cold email list by time zone?

Sequencers such as Instantly, Smartlead and lemlist schedule each campaign in one time zone. A single campaign for a list spread from New York to Los Angeles sends to the west coast three hours early. One campaign per zone, each with a morning sending window, lands the email when the lead starts work; best time to send cold email covers which hours.

Who uses this tool, and for what?

Cold emailers
Load each zone into its own Instantly or Smartlead campaign with a morning sending window.
SDR teams
Order a call list so each rep dials leads during their local business hours.
Agencies
Plan a client's send schedule across US and European leads from one export.

What can’t this tool tell you?

  • A state or country that spans zones gets its most populous one.
  • A mobile number's area code shows where it was issued, not where the person is now.
  • About 50 countries are mapped; others come out with no zone unless a phone or state says otherwise.

Common questions

How do I find a lead's time zone from their phone number?
For a US or Canadian number, the area code gives it: 212 is Eastern, 312 Central, 415 Pacific. For other countries, the country code gives the zone of single-zone countries. This tool reads both for a whole list.
What if a lead has a state and a phone number?
The state wins, because a mobile number keeps its area code when someone moves. The phone is used when the state is blank.
What happens to rows with no zone?
They're listed and downloadable as their own file. Add a state or country, or send them in your own zone.
Does it work for countries outside North America?
Yes, for about 50 countries by name, ISO code or phone country code. Countries with several zones, such as Australia and Brazil, use the most populous zone unless a state is given.
Is the file uploaded?
No. It runs in your browser. Only the optional mailbox check at the end sends the addresses, after you press the button and sign in.

A tidy list can still be full of dead addresses.

Extracting, deduplicating and syntax checks all work on the text of an address. None of them can tell whether the mailbox exists. Only the server that hosts it can answer that, through an SMTP check, and that is what the paid product does.

  • Upload the cleaned file as it is: CSVs up to 100,000 rows
  • A real SMTP mailbox check on every row, with catch-all detection
