Lead list phone coverage checker: how many leads have a mobile or direct dial?

In short: Reads every phone column of a lead export, types each number from the numbering plan (mobile, landline, toll-free, invalid), marks numbers shared by several leads as switchboards, and reports coverage per country and per column: mobile, own number, switchboard only, invalid or none. Limit: Mobile vs landline comes from the numbering plan; US and Canadian numbers can't be told apart from the digits.

A phone coverage checker tells you how many leads in a provider's export you can actually call. Upload an Apollo, Lusha, Cognism or ZoomInfo CSV: every phone column is read, each number is typed from its country's numbering plan, numbers shared by several leads are marked as switchboards, and you get the share with a mobile, an own number or nothing, per country.

Price: this tool is free. Live line type and carrier lookups come with Pro + Phone at $49.99/mo; email checking is from $9/mo. See pricing

What this means for you

Coverage per country and per column. US numbers never count as mobiles, because their digits can't say.

Coverage tells you what you bought. A live check tells you what works.

  1. A number that fits the plan can still be disconnected, ported or someone else's now.
  2. Upload the export at /verify with Pro + Phone for a live line type and carrier on each number; the email column gets a mailbox check in the same run.
  3. Compare providers by running each one's export of the same accounts through this page first.

How do I check the phone coverage of a lead list?

  1. Export the leads with all phone columns (Mobile Phone, Work Direct Phone, Corporate Phone, Phone 1, Direct Dial) and the country column if there is one.
  2. Upload the CSV, pick the default country for numbers with no + and no country, and how many leads must share a number before it counts as a switchboard.
  3. Press Check phone coverage. Read the overall split, the table per country and the fill rate of each phone column.
  4. Download the file with four columns added: best_phone_e164, best_phone_type, phone_coverage and shared_numbers.

Example

You enter
An 8-lead export with Country, Mobile Phone, Work Direct Phone and Corporate Phone columns: 3 UK leads sharing one +44 20 switchboard, 2 German, 2 US and 1 Swedish lead with 12345; shared at 3 or more leads.
You get
2 leads with a mobile (UK and Germany), 4 with an own number but no mobile (the US ones, because US digits don't say mobile), 1 with only the switchboard, 1 with only an invalid number; the +44 20 number is listed as shared by 3 leads. Per-country and per-column tables, and a CSV with best_phone_e164 and phone_coverage added.
Limits
Runs in your browser with no row cap; an uploaded file can be up to 25 MB.

What counts as a mobile, a direct number and a switchboard?

Mobile means the number sits in a range the country's plan allocates to mobiles, read with Google's libphonenumber. In the UK, Germany, France and most of Europe that is clear from the digits. In the US and Canada mobiles and landlines share ranges, so those numbers count as an own number, never as a mobile.

A switchboard is a number on several leads, usually a company's main line copied into every contact; you choose how many (2, 3, 5 or 10). A number only one lead has counts as their own, though it can still be a main line at a small company.

Why does phone coverage vary so much by country?

Data providers build phone data from different sources per region, and privacy law limits what they can hold: in much of the EU, mobile numbers for people are scarcer than in the US. So an export that looks full overall can have almost no mobiles for Germany or France. Sales teams on r/sales ask about exactly this: decent mobile coverage for EU prospects.

Run each provider's export of the same accounts through this page and compare the per-country table before you renew a contract.

Who uses this tool, and for what?

Sales ops
Compare Apollo, Lusha and Cognism exports of the same accounts before deciding which renewal to cut.
SDR managers
See which territories have mobiles to call and which are switchboard-only before you plan call blocks.
Agencies
Show a client what share of a bought list is reachable by phone, per country.

What can’t this tool tell you?

  • Mobile vs landline comes from the numbering plan; US and Canadian numbers can't be told apart from the digits.
  • Nothing checks that a number is in service, belongs to the lead or has not been ported.
  • Shared numbers are counted inside this file only; a switchboard used by one lead here counts as their own.
  • Phone columns are found by header name; a column called something unusual is missed.

Common questions

Which exports does it read?
Any CSV with a header row. Columns whose names contain phone, mobile, cell, tel, direct dial or switchboard are read; columns such as Phone Type or Phone Status are skipped.
Why are my US mobiles not counted as mobiles?
In the US and Canada the digits can't show mobile or landline, so the checker doesn't guess. A live carrier lookup gives the line type.
What does the country table use?
The country of the first valid number on the row, else the country column, else your default. So a German lead with a US number is counted under the US.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser.

Well formatted is not the same as reachable.

This tool fixes how numbers are written. It cannot tell you whether a line is mobile, landline or VoIP, or which carrier holds it. That takes a live carrier lookup, which is what Pro + Phone ($49.99/mo) adds.

  • Upload a CSV up to 100,000 rows with an email or phone column
  • 5,000 live carrier lookups a month: carrier name and real line type
  • Emails in the same file get a real SMTP mailbox check
