Kajabi contacts to email list: buyers and free opt-ins split, unsubscribes and staff set aside

In short: Reads a Kajabi contacts export (Products, Tags, Subscribed), Teachable or Thinkific students, Skool members or Podia customers. Rows fold per address with products or courses joined and tags kept; people who unsubscribed from marketing and staff accounts (owner, admin, instructor, moderator) are set aside, and buyers can be split from free opt-ins. Limit: Unsubscribes are only read when the export has a marketing or unsubscribe column.

To move contacts out of Kajabi, open Contacts, select all, choose Export and upload the CSV here. Each address becomes one row with its products and tags. Contacts who unsubscribed from marketing and staff accounts are set aside, and you can keep only people with a product to separate buyers from free opt-ins. Teachable, Thinkific, Skool and Podia exports work too.

Price: this tool is free. Checking a whole email list is from $9/mo, and the first 100 checks are free with Google, no card. See pricing

How do I turn a Kajabi export into an email list?

  1. Export the contacts: Kajabi (Contacts, select all, Export), Teachable (Users > Students > Export), Thinkific (Users > Export), Skool (the members export in your community settings) or Podia (Audience > Export).
  2. Upload the CSV or Excel file here, or paste it.
  3. Choose: set aside contacts who unsubscribed, set aside staff, keep only people with a product or course.
  4. Download the contact list and the set-aside file with the reason per address.

Example

You enter
A Kajabi contacts export with 6 contacts: 4 with products, 2 free opt-ins with only tags, and 1 buyer with Subscribed set to false.
You get
5 contacts in the list with products and tags; the unsubscribed buyer set aside as Unsubscribed from marketing. With the products-only option, the 2 free opt-ins move to the set-aside file.
Limits
Runs in your browser with no row cap; an uploaded file can be up to 25 MB.

How do I export contacts from Kajabi?

In Kajabi, open Contacts, select everyone (or a filtered segment) and choose Export; Kajabi emails you the CSV. It has one row per contact with name, email, products, tags and whether they're subscribed to your marketing emails.

The tool keeps products and tags per person and reads the subscribed column, so a move to another email platform doesn't re-add people who unsubscribed in Kajabi.

What about Teachable, Thinkific and Skool?

Teachable and Thinkific student exports can list a student once per course; those rows merge into one per address with every course listed. Thinkific's accepts-marketing and Teachable's unsubscribe columns are read when present. Skool's member export includes join date and membership price; staff roles are set aside when a role column is there.

Can I email students who unsubscribed?

Course access emails, receipts and important account notices can still go to them. Promotions can't. The FTC's CAN-SPAM guide covers the US and the ICO's guidance the UK.

What can’t this tool tell you?

  • Unsubscribes are only read when the export has a marketing or unsubscribe column.
  • Staff are only found when the export has a role column.
  • It can't tell which addresses still have a working inbox.
  • Buying a course isn't consent to every kind of marketing email.

Common questions

Can I export all my Kajabi contacts?
Yes. Select all contacts and choose Export; Kajabi sends the CSV by email. Upload it here.
How do I separate buyers from free opt-ins?
Tick "Keep only people with a product, course or paid membership". Contacts with no product move to the set-aside file, which is your free-lead list.
Are unsubscribed contacts removed?
They're set aside by default when the export has a subscribed or unsubscribed column, with the reason Unsubscribed from marketing.
Does it work with Teachable, Thinkific, Skool and Podia?
Yes. Any contact or student export with an email column works; product, tag, role and marketing columns are read when they're there.
Is my contact list uploaded?
No. It is read in your browser. Nothing is sent unless you choose to check the addresses afterwards.

A tidy list can still be full of dead addresses.

Extracting, deduplicating and syntax checks all work on the text of an address. None of them can tell whether the mailbox exists. Only the server that hosts it can answer that, through an SMTP check, and that is what the paid product does.

  • Upload the cleaned file as it is: CSVs up to 100,000 rows
  • A real SMTP mailbox check on every row, with catch-all detection
