Email vs website domain checker: find leads whose address isn't at their company

In short: Reads a lead CSV with an email and a website column and labels every row: same domain, same name on another ending, personal mailbox, a different company's domain, or nothing to compare. Limit: It compares text; it can't tell whether the mailbox exists or the person still works there.

An email and website domain match check compares the domain after the @ with the company website on the same row. Upload a lead CSV and every row is labelled: same domain, same name on another ending (acme.co.uk and acme.com), a personal mailbox such as Gmail, or a different company's domain, which often means a previous employer, a parent company or an agency.

Price: this tool is free. Checking a whole email list is from $9/mo, and the first 100 checks are free with Google, no card. See pricing

The domains match. Are the people still there?

  1. A matching domain says the address belongs to the company, not that the mailbox is open.
  2. Upload the matching rows at /verify for a live mailbox check on every address.
  3. The first 100 email checks are free with a Google sign-in, no card.

How do I check that lead emails match their company website?

  1. Upload or paste a CSV with a header row, an email column and a website or domain column, such as an Apollo, Clay or ZoomInfo export.
  2. Press Compare domains. Both columns are found for you; change either with the column pickers above the result.
  3. Read the split and the table of email domains used for more than one website.
  4. Download the matching rows, the rows to check, or every row with three columns added.

Example

You enter
A 7-row CSV: [email protected] with website https://www.northwind.example, [email protected] with fabrikam.example, [email protected], [email protected] with tailspin.example, two rows at holdco.example with different websites, and one blank email.
You get
1 same domain, 1 same name on another ending (tailspin), 3 different company domains (contoso and the two holdco rows), 1 personal mailbox and 1 with no email. holdco.example is listed as an email domain used for 2 websites.
Limits
Runs in your browser with no row cap; an uploaded file can be up to 25 MB.

Why don't lead emails match the company website?

Lead databases build a row from several sources: the company and website from one, the address from another, sometimes years apart. A row can end up with the person's previous employer's address, a personal Gmail they once used, a parent company's or an agency's domain, or the address of someone else at a similar name. Sending to it under the wrong company's name costs a reply at best and a bounce at worst; see the address is valid but the person left.

Domains are compared on the registrable domain from the Public Suffix List, so mail.acme.co.uk and https://www.acme.co.uk/about are the same company. A different ending with the same name, such as acme.de and acme.com, is labelled separately: usually a regional office, kept by default.

What should I do with rows that don't match?

Check them before they go into a sequence. A different-company address that turns up against many websites, shown in its own table, is often a holding company or an agency that registered the leads. Personal mailboxes are fine for some campaigns and not others; the free vs business email filter splits them out by themselves. Matching rows still need a mailbox check, because a matching domain doesn't mean the person is still there.

Who uses this tool, and for what?

Cold emailers
Catch Apollo and ZoomInfo rows carrying a previous employer's address before they go into a sequence.
Agencies
Find addresses at a parent company or another agency's domain in a client's lead file.
Sales ops
Audit a CRM export where the account website and the contact email came from different tools.

What can’t this tool tell you?

  • It compares text; it can't tell whether the mailbox exists or the person still works there.
  • A company that runs its email on a different brand's domain looks like a mismatch.
  • One website column and one email column per run.

Common questions

How do I find leads with the wrong email domain?
Upload the lead CSV with its email and website columns and press Compare domains. Rows whose address is at a different company's domain are labelled, and you can download them.
Is a personal email a mismatch?
It's labelled separately. Gmail, Outlook.com, Yahoo and other free mailboxes never match a company website, so they're counted on their own rather than as a wrong company.
What does same name, other ending mean?
The part before the ending matches but the ending differs, such as acme.co.uk and acme.com. That's usually a regional office of the same company, so those rows are kept with the matches.
Does a matching domain mean the address works?
No. It means the address belongs to the company on the row. The person may have left; only a mailbox check shows whether it would bounce.
Is the file uploaded?
No. The comparison runs in your browser. Only the optional mailbox check at the end sends the matching addresses, after you press the button and sign in.

A tidy list can still be full of dead addresses.

Extracting, deduplicating and syntax checks all work on the text of an address. None of them can tell whether the mailbox exists. Only the server that hosts it can answer that, through an SMTP check, and that is what the paid product does.

  • Upload the cleaned file as it is: CSVs up to 100,000 rows
  • A real SMTP mailbox check on every row, with catch-all detection
