Phone validation and compliance

What is the National Do Not Call Registry?

Also called: DNC registry, DNC list, National Do Not Call Registry

The National Do Not Call Registry is the US list, run by the FTC, of phone numbers whose owners do not want telemarketing calls. Telemarketers calling consumers must check their lists against it at least every 31 days and not call registered numbers unless an exemption, such as an existing business relationship, applies.

It covers sales calls to consumers. Calls from charities, political groups and surveys are generally exempt, and most business-to-business calls are exempt under the FTC's Telemarketing Sales Rule. Several states run their own lists with stricter rules.

Sellers pay for access by area code and download the numbers to scrub against. Registrations do not expire.

Scrubbing is separate from validation. A number can be perfectly valid, mobile and on the registry; a number can also be invalid and not on it.

How SimpleVerifier handles it

SimpleVerifier does not check numbers against the Do Not Call Registry. Validate and format numbers here, then scrub them against the registry through your FTC access or a compliance provider.
