Reverse email lookup: the organisation, mail provider and mailbox behind an address

In short: Enter one address to see the organisation behind its domain, who hosts its mail, whether the mailbox exists, the domain's age and whether it is personal, role or disposable. No names, photos or profiles. Limit: It never names the person behind an address. That is deliberate: we don't sell or collect people data.

A reverse email lookup tells you what an email address is linked to. This one shows only business facts it can verify: the organisation behind the domain, its mail provider, whether the mailbox exists on the mail server, the domain's age, and whether the address is personal, a shared role inbox or disposable. It never names the person: we don't sell or look up people data.

Price: this tool is free. Checking a whole email list is from $9/mo, and the first 100 checks are free with Google, no card. See pricing

Business facts only: the organisation behind the domain, its mail provider, whether the mailbox exists and what kind of address it is. We don't sell or look up people data, so you won't get a name, a photo or social profiles here.

How do I look up a whole list of email addresses?

  1. Paste the rest of the addresses below, or drop the CSV.
  2. Each one is checked on its mail server: valid, risky or invalid, with the reason.
  3. Download the results with the original columns kept.
Check the whole list

How do I do a reverse email lookup?

  1. Enter one email address.
  2. Press Look it up. The mailbox is checked on its mail server and the domain is looked up in DNS, the registry and on its home page.
  3. Read the organisation, mail provider, mailbox and address type. A personal Gmail or Outlook address gets no organisation, because the domain says nothing about its owner.
  4. Paste the rest of your list below to check it all on the verify page.

Example

You get
Shared role inbox at Northwind Traders (northwind.example). Mailbox: exists, the mail server confirmed it. Mail provider: Google Workspace. Domain age: 9 years. No person's name: we don't look up people.
Limits
Five mailbox checks a minute per visitor; whole lists go to the verify page.

How do I find out who owns an email address?

For a work address, the domain tells you the organisation: [email protected] belongs to whoever runs northwind.com, and this lookup names it from the site's own title and Wikidata. It also shows whether the mailbox exists, which is the honest test of whether the address is real.

For a personal address at Gmail, Outlook or Yahoo, nothing public tells you who owns it. Sites that promise a name and photo for any address are combining scraped and breached data about people; we don't do that, and we don't sell people data.

What can a reverse email lookup tell me?

Here: whether the mailbox exists (an SMTP check with the address's own mail server, no email sent), the mail provider from the domain's MX records, the organisation behind a company domain, the domain's age from the registry's RDAP record, and whether the address is disposable or a shared role inbox such as info@ or sales@.

That is usually what a B2B question needs: is this a real person at a real company, or a throwaway address on a domain registered last week?

Who uses this tool, and for what?

Sales teams
Check an inbound lead's address is real and at the company it claims, before spending time on a call.
SaaS signups
See whether a new signup is a work address, a free mailbox or a throwaway one.
Recruiters
Confirm a candidate's work address belongs to the employer they named, without looking the person up.

What can’t this tool tell you?

  • It never names the person behind an address. That is deliberate: we don't sell or collect people data.
  • The organisation is read from the domain's home page and Wikidata, so it can be a guess for small or unusual sites.
  • Some mail servers accept every address (catch-all) or refuse checks, so the mailbox can't always be confirmed.
  • Five checks a minute per visitor; whole lists go to the verify page.

Common questions

Is there a free reverse email lookup?
Yes, this one is free with no account. It shows business facts (organisation, provider, mailbox, domain age, address type), not a person's name.
Can I find out who owns a Gmail address?
Not from public data. The domain is Google's, so it says nothing about the person. We don't look up or sell people data.
How can I tell if an email address is real?
Check the mailbox with its mail server, as this lookup does. A mailbox that exists, on a domain with MX records, is a real address.
What is this email linked to?
For a work address: the organisation behind the domain and its mail provider. For personal addresses there is no public link to show.
Is reverse email lookup legal?
Looking up public facts about a domain is. Collecting personal data about the owner brings data protection duties such as GDPR; this tool doesn't do it.
