Remove emails by domain: drop competitors, .edu, .gov or any domain from a list
In short: Takes your list and your exclusion rules (a domain and its subdomains, an ending such as .edu or .gov.uk, a name on any ending such as acme.*, or single addresses) and splits the list into kept and removed, with the rule that matched each. Limit: It matches the domain after the @; it can't tell which kept mailboxes still exist.
To remove emails by domain, list the domains or endings to drop, one per line (competitor.com, .edu, .gov, acme.*), then paste your list or upload the CSV. Every address at a matching domain or its subdomains is removed. You get the kept rows with their original columns, and a removed file showing the rule that matched each address.
Price: this tool is free. Checking a whole email list is from $9/mo, and the first 100 checks are free with Google, no card. See pricing
One per line: acme.com (and its subdomains), .edu or *.gov (an ending), acme.* (acme on any ending), or a single address.
No rules yet.

How do I remove every email at a domain from my list?
- Type the domains to remove, one per line: a domain (acme.com, also removes mail.acme.com), an ending (.edu, *.gov, .ac.uk), a name on any ending (acme.*) or one address. Or add a preset for schools or government.
- Paste your list, or upload a CSV; the email column is found automatically and the other columns are kept.
- Press Remove matching emails and check which rule removed how many.
- Download the kept file for your send, and the removed file if you need a record of who was excluded.
Example
- You enter
- 8 addresses and the rules
competitor-example.*,.edu,.govand.ac.uk. - You get
- 6 removed and 2 kept.
competitor-example.*removessam@competitor-example.com,ops@mail.competitor-example.comandbob@competitor-example.co.uk;.edu,.govand.ac.ukremove one address each. - Limits
- Runs in your browser with no row cap; an uploaded file can be up to 25 MB.
How do I remove all emails from a specific domain in Excel?
In Excel 365, =FILTER(A2:A1000,NOT(ISNUMBER(SEARCH("@acme.com",A2:A1000)))) keeps the addresses that aren't at acme.com. Each extra domain needs another SEARCH, and @acme.com misses jane@mail.acme.com while acme.com alone also matches notacme.com. In Google Sheets, =FILTER(A2:A,NOT(REGEXMATCH(A2:A,"@(.+\.)?acme\.com$"))) gets the match right, at the cost of writing a regular expression.
This tool matches on the part after the @, so acme.com removes acme.com and its subdomains and nothing else, and you can paste a long exclusion list as it is.
How do I remove .edu and .gov emails from a list?
Add .edu and .gov as rules, or press the Schools and universities and Government presets, which add the common endings in other countries too (.ac.uk, .edu.au, .gov.uk, .gc.ca). Endings like these are restricted: .edu is only for accredited US post-secondary institutions (EDUCAUSE eligibility) and .gov for US government bodies (get.gov).
Cold emailers usually drop them because university and government mail servers filter outside mail hard, and many organisations there have rules about unsolicited email. Removing them before a send keeps bounces and complaints down.
Why remove competitor or customer domains before a send?
So your campaign doesn't reach people it shouldn't: competitors who would see your pitch, current customers who would get a prospecting email, your own team, or partners you've agreed not to contact. Bought and scraped lists often include all of these.
Use name.* for a company that runs several country domains (acme.* removes acme.com, acme.de and acme.co.uk). To remove specific people rather than whole domains, use the compare two email lists tool with your suppression list.
Is this faster than a FILTER formula?
| This tool | Excel or Sheets formula | |
|---|---|---|
| Many domains at once | Paste the list | One condition per domain |
| Subdomains (mail.acme.com) | Included by default | Needs a regex or extra SEARCH |
| Endings (.edu, .gov.uk) | Yes | Needs a regex |
| Which rule removed a row | In the removed file | Not shown |
Who uses this tool, and for what?
- Cold emailers
- Strip competitors, current customers and .edu or .gov addresses from a bought or scraped lead list before it goes into a sequence.
- Agencies
- Keep a per-client exclusion list of domains and run every new list through it before a campaign starts.
- Newsletter owners
- Drop test domains, staff and partner domains before an export goes to a new platform.
- Recruiters
- Remove the domains of client companies you've agreed not to approach.
What can’t this tool tell you?
- It matches the domain after the @; it can't tell which kept mailboxes still exist.
- acme.* matches the same name on any ending, which can include unrelated companies with that name.
- A company that uses several unrelated domains needs each one listed.
- It doesn't know who a domain belongs to; you supply the rules.
Common questions
- How do I remove certain domains from an email list?
- Type the domains here, one per line, paste the list and press Remove matching emails. Every address at those domains, and their subdomains, is removed.
- How do I filter out Gmail and Yahoo addresses?
- Add gmail.com, yahoo.com and the others as rules, or use the business email filter, which already knows the free and ISP mail domains.
- Does removing acme.com also remove mail.acme.com?
- Yes, by default. Untick the subdomains option to remove only addresses exactly at acme.com.
- Can I remove a whole country's domains?
- Yes: add the ending, such as .de or .fr. For a fuller split by country, including home mail providers, use the email list by country tool.
- Is my list uploaded?
- No. Matching happens in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere unless you choose to check the kept addresses afterwards.

A tidy list can still be full of dead addresses.
Extracting, deduplicating and syntax checks all work on the text of an address. None of them can tell whether the mailbox exists. Only the server that hosts it can answer that, through an SMTP check, and that is what the paid product does.
- Upload the cleaned file as it is: CSVs up to 100,000 rows
- A real SMTP mailbox check on every row, with catch-all detection
