SMS list cleaner: mobiles only, in E.164, split by time zone
In short: Checks each number against its country's numbering plan: mobile ranges kept in E.164, landline, toll-free, premium and invalid numbers set aside, repeats merged, US and Canada numbers (no mobile/landline in the digits) kept or set aside by your choice, then one file per time zone. Limit: Type comes from the numbering plan; ported numbers and US/Canada lines aren't known from the digits.
An SMS list cleaner keeps only the numbers that can take a text. Paste a list or upload a CSV: each number is read against its country's numbering plan, landline, toll-free, premium and invalid numbers are set aside, repeats are merged, and the mobiles are written in E.164 and grouped by time zone for send windows. US and Canada numbers are marked, because their digits don't say mobile or landline.
Price: this tool is free. Live line type and carrier lookups come with Pro + Phone at $49.99/mo; email checking is from $9/mo. See pricing
Used for numbers written without a + country code.

Mobile range is not the same as mobile today
- Numbers get ported to landlines and VoIP, and US/Canada ranges don't say which they are at all.
- Upload the SMS-ready file at /verify with Pro + Phone for the live line type and carrier, so you stop paying for texts that can't land.
- Send only to people who agreed to receive texts, and include opt-out wording in every message.
How do I clean a phone list before sending SMS?
- Paste numbers one per line, or upload a CSV of contacts; the phone column is found for you.
- Pick the default country for numbers with no + and choose whether to keep US/Canada numbers (unclear type) and VoIP ranges.
- Press Clean for SMS. Each row gets an E.164 number, a result (mobile range, landline, toll-free, repeat…) and a time zone.
- Download the SMS-ready file, the set-aside numbers, or one file per time zone to schedule each send in local hours.
Example
- You enter
- 8 numbers, default US:
+44 7400 123456(twice),+44 20 7946 0958,(415) 555-2671,+91 98765 43210,+1 800 555 0199,+49 1512 3456789and12345; US/Canada numbers kept. - You get
- 4 SMS-ready in E.164 in 4 time zones (London, Los Angeles, Kolkata, Berlin), the US one marked as mobile or landline. Set aside: the UK landline, the toll-free number, the repeat and the invalid
12345. One download per time zone. - Limits
- Runs in your browser with no row cap; an uploaded file can be up to 25 MB.
Which numbers are set aside, and why?
Landlines can't receive SMS in most countries (some carriers read the text out as a voice call), toll-free numbers need their own text enablement, and premium, shared-cost and pager ranges never take marketing texts. Invalid numbers and repeats cost you a message each for nothing. The type comes from each country's numbering plan, read with Google's libphonenumber.
US and Canadian mobiles and landlines share the same ranges, so their digits say neither. They are kept by default and marked; turn that off to send only to numbers whose range proves mobile. See can you text a landline.
Why split an SMS list by time zone?
Texts land on a phone in someone's pocket, so the hour matters more than for email. The TCPA restricts telemarketing calls and texts to between 8am and 9pm in the recipient's local time, and several US states set tighter windows.
Each kept number gets a zone from its North American area code or its country's calling code; a state or country that spans zones gets its most populous one and you should treat that as approximate.
What each result means for an SMS send
| Result | Kept? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile range | Yes | Allocated to mobiles in the plan |
| Mobile or landline (US/Canada) | Your choice | The digits can't tell |
| VoIP range | Your choice | Some take SMS; many senders block them |
| Landline, toll-free, service | No | Can't take a normal marketing text |
| Invalid, repeat | No | Wasted message |
Who uses this tool, and for what?
- SMS marketers
- Drop landlines and toll-free numbers from a list before a campaign billed per message.
- Clinics and salons
- Send appointment reminders only to mobile numbers, scheduled in each client's local time.
- Event teams
- Merge repeated sign-ups and get every number in E.164 for the SMS platform import.
What can’t this tool tell you?
- Type comes from the numbering plan; ported numbers and US/Canada lines aren't known from the digits.
- Nothing checks that a number is in service or has consented to texts.
- Time zones for countries and states that span zones are the most populous zone.
- VoIP and personal-number ranges vary by country; check your SMS provider's rules for them.
Common questions
- Can I tell if a US number is a mobile from the number?
- No. US and Canadian mobiles and landlines share area codes and prefixes, and numbers port freely. A live carrier lookup gives the line type.
- Does a clean list mean I can text these people?
- No. Marketing texts need the recipient's prior consent under the TCPA in the US, PECR in the UK and similar laws elsewhere. The cleaner only removes numbers that can't take the message.
- What format does the SMS-ready file use?
- E.164: + then country code and number, with no spaces, for example +447400123456. Twilio, Vonage, Plivo and most SMS platforms import it as is.
- Is my list uploaded?
- No. Everything runs in your browser.

This tool fixes how numbers are written. It cannot tell you whether a line is mobile, landline or VoIP, or which carrier holds it. That takes a live carrier lookup, which is what Pro + Phone ($49.99/mo) adds.
- Upload a CSV up to 100,000 rows with an email or phone column
- 5,000 live carrier lookups a month: carrier name and real line type
- Emails in the same file get a real SMTP mailbox check
Plans from $9 a month, cancel anytime, no contract. Sign in with Google and your first 100 email checks are free, no card. The free tools stay free either way.
