Blocking free email domains stops some junk signups. It doesn't stop the rest.
A fake signup on a company-looking domain, a typo like gmial.com or a mailbox that doesn't exist all pass a freemail filter. Our API checks the mailbox itself in real time at signup, so you can keep genuine Gmail users and still turn away addresses that will never receive your mail.

Which domains are on the list of free email providers?
Two kinds: personal webmail and internet-provider addresses. Personal webmail: Gmail and googlemail.com (which Google says is the same mailbox), Microsoft's outlook, hotmail, live and msn domains in their regional versions, Yahoo's country domains, AOL, iCloud, Proton, Tutanota, Zoho, GMX and web.de, Fastmail, and the big regional services such as Yandex, Mail.ru, QQ, NetEase, Naver, Daum, Rediffmail, Libero, Seznam, WP and UOL. Internet-provider addresses: comcast.net, att.net, verizon.net, btinternet.com, orange.fr, t-online.de and others that come with a broadband account.
It's the same list behind our free vs business email filter and lead tools, so it's maintained rather than scraped once. The 79 biggest consumer domains were MX-checked in October 2026 for our free email providers study, which also covers who actually hosts each one (att.net, verizon.net and sky.com mail is received by Yahoo, for example).
How many free email providers are there?
Thousands, if you count every regional webmail service and broadband provider, so no list is complete. This one aims at the domains you are most likely to meet in English-language, European and East Asian B2B data. Our free email providers study found Google, Microsoft, Yahoo and Apple cover most personal addresses in English-language data, with Yandex, Mail.ru, QQ, NetEase and Naver leading regionally.
That's why a domain missing from the list isn't proof of a company address: the free vs business email filter will count it as a company domain. If a domain looks personal but isn't listed, check its MX with the email provider lookup to see who hosts it.
Should I block free email domains on a form?
Usually not: flag them instead. Common uses for the list: routing signups from personal addresses to a different flow, scoring B2B leads, or splitting a list before outreach. For a signup form, flagging is usually better than blocking. Many real buyers, freelancers and small-business owners use Gmail, and rejecting them at the door loses customers. Asking for a company name, or treating freemail as lower priority, keeps them.
This is not a disposable-email list. Gmail gives a permanent mailbox; a throwaway service gives an address meant to be abandoned. Blocking real providers as disposable would block legitimate users, and the disposable email checker handles the throwaway kind separately. A domain that isn't on this list isn't proven to be a company either; it's just not a provider we know.
Can I download the list of free email domains?
Yes, as CSV, JSON, TXT or a JavaScript Set, free to reuse with a link back. CSV has domain and type columns (webmail or isp). JSON is an object with the source URL, the last-updated date and a domains array of {domain, type}. TXT is one domain per line, the form most blocklist settings accept. The JavaScript option copies a Set and an isFreeEmail() helper you can paste into a form handler. Check back for the updated date, since providers add and retire domains.
Free email domains or disposable domains: what's the difference?
| Free email providers list | Disposable domain list | |
|---|---|---|
| Examples | gmail.com, outlook.com, comcast.net | Throwaway inbox services |
| The mailbox is | Permanent and personal | Meant to be abandoned |
| At signup | Flag or route differently | Usually block |
| Where to check | This page | Disposable email checker |
Who uses this tool, and for what?
- SaaS teams
- Paste the JavaScript Set into a signup handler to route Gmail and Outlook.com signups to a self-serve flow and company domains to sales, without rejecting anyone.
- Sales ops
- Load the CSV into a CRM or spreadsheet to score inbound leads: a freemail address lowers priority, a company domain tells you who they work for. For a whole list at once, use the free vs business email filter.
- Marketers
- Split a B2B list into company and personal addresses before a campaign, and use the
isptype to find broadband addresses likecomcast.netthat look like neither. - Cold emailers
- Drop personal addresses from a scraped B2B lead list so outreach goes to work inboxes, then verify what remains.
What can’t this tool tell you?
- It has 158 domains, not every provider in the world. A domain that isn't on it is not proven to be a company.
- It isn't a disposable or fake-signup list. Throwaway domains need the disposable email checker.
- A freemail address can belong to a real business owner or buyer. The list tells you the domain is personal, not that the lead is bad.
- It says nothing about whether a mailbox exists.
nobody12345@gmail.commatches the list like any other Gmail address.
Common questions
- What is a free email domain?
- A consumer mailbox domain anyone can get an address on, such as gmail.com, outlook.com or yahoo.com, as opposed to a domain a company owns. ISP domains like comcast.net are only for that provider's customers but are personal addresses too, so they're included and labelled separately.
- Can I download the list?
- Yes, as CSV, JSON or TXT, or copy it as a JavaScript Set. The Show filter decides whether you get all domains, webmail only or ISP addresses only. It's free to reuse with a link back.
- Should I block free email addresses on my signup form?
- Usually not outright. Plenty of genuine customers sign up with Gmail or Outlook.com. Flag them for a different flow or lower lead priority instead, and use a mailbox check to stop addresses that don't exist.
- Is this the same as a disposable email list?
- No. Free providers give permanent personal mailboxes; disposable services give addresses meant to be thrown away. Use the disposable email checker for those, and don't treat Gmail users as fake.
- How many free email providers are there?
- Thousands worldwide, counting regional webmail and broadband providers. This list has the 158 domains you are most likely to meet in B2B data, which is why a domain that isn't on it may still be personal.
- Which free email providers are the largest?
- Gmail, Outlook.com (with Hotmail and Live), Yahoo and iCloud cover most personal addresses in English-language data. Regionally, Yandex, Mail.ru, QQ, NetEase and Naver lead. This page lists their domains; it doesn't rank providers by quality or security.
- Is there a list of free email domains to block, like HubSpot's?
- HubSpot publishes the domains its forms reject when you turn on Block free email providers. This list is our own, built for flagging rather than blocking, and you can download it as TXT, the one-domain-per-line form most blocklist settings accept.
- How often is the list updated?
- When we change the domains our own filters use; the date of the last change is shown under the download buttons and in the JSON file.

A tidy list can still be full of dead addresses.
Extracting, deduplicating and syntax checks all work on the text of an address. None of them can tell whether the mailbox exists. Only the server that hosts it can answer that, through an SMTP check, and that is what the paid product does.
- Upload the cleaned file as it is: CSVs up to 100,000 rows
- A real SMTP mailbox check on every row, with catch-all detection
- Small list? $9 one-time covers 2,500 emails, no subscription
