Email link checker: shorteners, mismatched and broken links before you send

In short: Lists every link in a pasted email with its text and target, and flags URL shorteners, text that shows one domain but links to another, empty or # links, relative links, bare IP addresses and plain http, plus every domain the email links to. Limit: Links aren't opened, so a page that returns an error isn't caught.

Paste the HTML (or plain text) of your email and every link is listed with its text and destination. Shorteners like bit.ly, link text that reads as one web address but points to another, empty # links, relative links, raw IP addresses and plain http are flagged, with every linked domain counted. Nothing is fetched; links are judged as written.

Price: this tool is free. Checking a whole email list is from $9/mo, and the first 100 checks are free with Google, no card. See pricing

Runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded and no link is opened.

How do I check the list the email goes to?

  1. Fix the links here.
  2. Upload your send list at /verify. Every address gets a live mailbox check, and valid, risky and invalid download as separate files. The first 100 email checks are free with a Google sign-in, no card.
  3. Send only to the valid file.

How do I check the links in an email before sending?

  1. Open the email in your sending tool's code view (or View source on a test send) and copy the HTML. Plain text works too.
  2. Paste it here or upload the .html file, and press Check the links.
  3. Fix the links marked to fix first: shorteners, mismatched text and empty links. Then look at the ones to check.
  4. Download the link list as CSV if you want to review it with someone.

Example

You enter
A short HTML email with 6 links: a bit.ly link, text reading www.northwind.example/book that goes to a tracking domain, an http link with UTM tags, a # link, a mailto and an unsubscribe link holding {{contact_id}}.
You get
6 links, 3 to fix (the shortener, the mismatched text and the # link), 1 to check (plain http), and the mailto and merge-tag links noted. 3 linked domains: bit.ly, mailer-example.net and northwind.example.
Limits
Runs in your browser, so the HTML is not uploaded and no link is opened; an uploaded file can be up to 25 MB.

Why do URL shorteners hurt email delivery?

Google's sender guidelines ask for links that are visible and easy to understand, so recipients know where a click leads. A shortener hides that, and shortener domains are shared by millions of senders, spammers included, so their reputation is not yours to control. Link to the real page on your own domain instead.

Branded short links on your own domain avoid the shared-reputation problem, but the destination is still hidden in the email. If you need a short link, show the full domain in the text.

What is a mismatched link?

A link whose visible text looks like a web address (www.northwind.example/book) but whose target is somewhere else. It is the classic phishing pattern, so filters compare the two. The fix is to make the text match the target or use plain words like "Book a slot".

Sending tools that track clicks rewrite every link on send to go through their own tracking domain, which can create the same mismatch. Paste the HTML as written to check your copy; if you see it on received mail, a custom tracking domain on your own domain keeps the text and target aligned.

Who uses this tool, and for what?

Cold emailers
Catch a bit.ly or a tracking link that slipped into a sequence step before 2,000 sends.
Newsletter senders
Check every button and image link in a long issue points where its text says.
Agencies
Review a client's template for broken # links and http pages before sign-off.
Email developers
List every link and UTM tag in a build for QA.

What can’t this tool tell you?

  • Links aren't opened, so a page that returns an error isn't caught.
  • Click tracking added on send isn't seen; it checks the HTML you paste.
  • Domain reputation and blocklists aren't looked up here.
  • It can't tell whether the addresses you send to exist.

Common questions

Does it click or open the links?
No. Nothing is fetched, so it can't tell whether a page loads or returns an error. It judges each link by its URL and text.
How many links are too many?
There is no published limit. Fewer links to fewer, well-known domains are easier to trust, and many cold emailers send the first email with none. The checker counts links and linked domains so you can judge.
What about merge tags in links?
Links holding a merge tag such as {{unsubscribe_url}} or *|UNSUB|* are marked as filled on send and not judged.
Is my email uploaded?
No. It is read in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere.

A tidy list can still be full of dead addresses.

Extracting, deduplicating and syntax checks all work on the text of an address. None of them can tell whether the mailbox exists. Only the server that hosts it can answer that, through an SMTP check, and that is what the paid product does.

  • Upload the cleaned file as it is: CSVs up to 100,000 rows
  • A real SMTP mailbox check on every row, with catch-all detection
