Toll-free and premium numbers in China
Toll-free numbers in China start with 01080, 02180 or 0800 when dialled inside China (1080, 2180 or 800 after +86 from abroad) and have 10 or 12 digits after the country code. Premium-rate numbers start with 0160 or 0168. Example: 800 123 4567, or +868001234567 in E.164.

Every valid China number of each type starts with one of these digit groups. The example column shows Google’s example number for the range, written internationally.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Toll-free | 1080, 2180, 800 | 01080, 02180, 0800 | 10 or 12 | +86 800 123 4567Not diallable from abroad |
| Premium rate | 160, 168 | 0160, 0168 | 8 | +86 16812345 |
| Shared cost | 1–9 | 01–09 | 7 to 11 | +86 400 123 4567Not diallable from abroad |
What each type means for the caller
- Toll-free: 01080, 02180 or 0800
- Free to the caller, usually only from inside the country; the business that owns the number pays for the call. 10 or 12 digits after +86.
- Premium rate: 0160 or 0168
- Charged above a normal call at a rate set by the service, with part of the charge going to the service provider. 8 digits after +86.
- Shared cost: 01–09
- The caller pays part of the cost and the owner pays the rest, so the price sits between a free and a normal call. 7 to 11 digits after +86.
Writing and dialling a China toll-free number
Inside China, dial the number with its leading 0. From abroad or in E.164, drop the 0 and put +86 in front: 800 123 4567 becomes +868001234567. Google's data marks the toll-free range as not diallable from abroad, so these numbers usually only work from inside China.
Toll-free and premium numbers in a phone list
In a lead or customer list, a toll-free number usually reaches a company line rather than a person, and a premium-rate number costs you money to call. The free toll-free number checker flags them in a pasted list or CSV, and the China phone number format page covers mobiles and landlines.

A prefix says what a range is for. A live lookup says what the line is now.

Common questions
- What is the toll-free prefix in China?
- China toll-free numbers start with 01080, 02180 or 0800 at home, written +86 1080, 2180 or 800 internationally. Every valid toll-free number starts that way, though not every number with those digits is in service.
- How many digits is a China toll-free number?
- 10 or 12 digits after the country code +86, plus the trunk prefix 0 when dialled inside China.
- Can I call a China toll-free number from abroad?
- Google's numbering-plan data marks China's toll-free range as not diallable from abroad, so expect the call to fail from outside China.
- How do I spot a premium-rate number in China?
- By its first digits: 0160 or 0168. Shared-cost numbers start with 01–09. The prefix tells you the range is charged; the actual price is set per service.

The numbering plan only knows what a range was issued for.
In the US and Canada mobiles and landlines share the same prefixes, and anywhere a number can be ported or reassigned the range stops telling the whole story. A live carrier lookup asks the network data instead, which is what Pro + Phone ($49.99/mo) adds.
