Country calling code lookup: find any country's code, or which country a code is
A country calling code is the one to three digits after the + in an international number, set by the ITU: +1 for the US and Canada, +44 for the UK, +63 for the Philippines. Search a country to get its code, or a code to see which countries use it, with the exit and trunk prefixes to dial.

Formatting a whole list? Country codes are the easy part.
The phone number formatter converts a list to E.164 in your browser. The Email + Phone plan adds a live line-type and carrier lookup for every number, which the country code alone can't tell you.
- Drop your numbers as a CSV
- See its rows, duplicates and bad formats, free
- Check every number when you are ready

How do I find a country's calling code?
- Type a country name, or a code in any form: 44, +44, 0044 or 011 44. A code shared by several countries, like +1 or +7, lists all of them; add the area code (+1 876) to narrow it.
- Read the calling code, the exit code you dial to leave that country, the trunk prefix its numbers drop abroad and an example mobile number.
- Under What do I dial?, pick where you're calling from and to, and add the number if you have it, to get the exact digits to dial.
- Follow a linked country name for its full number format page: lengths, mobile and landline examples, and how to store its numbers.
Example
- You enter
United States, or the code+1.- You get
- Calling code +1, exit code 011 to dial abroad, no trunk prefix, an example number
+1 201 555 0123and a link to the United States number format page. Typing+1alone lists every country that shares it. - Limits
- No usage limit and no account; it runs in your browser.
What is a country calling code?
It's the prefix that routes an international call to a country's network: one to three digits written after a +, so +44 20 7946 0958 is a London number and +1 415 555 2671 a San Francisco one. The ITU assigns them under the E.164 numbering plan and publishes the list of assigned codes. Codes are grouped by world zone: 1 for North America, 2 mostly for Africa, 3 and 4 for Europe, 5 for Latin America, 6 for Oceania and South-East Asia, 7 for Russia and Kazakhstan, 8 for East Asia and 9 for the rest of Asia.
A country calling code isn't the two-letter country code used in addresses and domains. The UK's calling code is 44 and its ISO code is GB; this tool accepts either in the search box.
What country is +44, +63 or +234?
+44 is the United Kingdom, shared with Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man. +63 is the Philippines, +234 is Nigeria, +971 the United Arab Emirates, +52 Mexico, +61 Australia, +86 China and +91 India. Type any code in the box above for the answer, including the territories that share it.
Some codes cover several countries. +1 is the North American Numbering Plan: the US, Canada and 23 Caribbean and Pacific territories, told apart by area code, so +1 876 is Jamaica and +1 809 the Dominican Republic. +7 is shared by Russia and Kazakhstan. To find the country of a whole number, or a list of them, the phone number country lookup reads each one.
How do I call a number with a country code?
Dial your country's exit code, then the country calling code, then the number without its trunk prefix (usually the leading 0). From the US, a London number written 020 7946 0958 is 011 44 20 7946 0958; from the UK, a US number is 00 1 415 555 2671. From a mobile you can type + instead of the exit code and it works from any country, which is why contact lists should store numbers in E.164 format.
The exceptions are worth knowing. Italy keeps the leading 0 of landline numbers after +39. Calls inside the +1 zone use 1 instead of an exit code. Russia's landline exit code is 8, a pause for the tone, then 10. The What do I dial? box above applies these rules for the two countries you pick.
How many country codes are there?
libphonenumber, the numbering-plan library this tool reads, maps 245 countries and territories to just over 200 calling codes, because several codes are shared. The ITU's list also holds codes for non-geographic services, such as +800 for international freephone and +882 and +883 for international networks, which belong to no country.
Codes rarely change, but they do: South Sudan got +211 in 2011. The data here comes from Google's libphonenumber, which tracks the ITU's changes.
Country calling code or ISO country code?
| Calling code (this tool) | ISO 3166 country code | |
|---|---|---|
| Example, United Kingdom | +44 | GB |
| Used for | Dialling and E.164 numbers | Addresses, domains, data fields |
| Shared by several countries | Sometimes (+1, +7, +44) | Never |
| Set by | ITU (E.164) | ISO (3166-1) |
Who uses this tool, and for what?
- Sales and support teams
- Work out what to dial for a customer abroad, or which country a +code on a missed call belongs to.
- CRM admins
- Check the code and trunk prefix before converting a country's numbers to E.164 in an import.
- SMS teams
- Confirm the code for each country in a campaign, and spot +1 Caribbean numbers that are billed as international.
- Developers
- Look up exit and trunk prefixes while writing phone input validation, then use libphonenumber rather than hard-coding them.
What can’t this tool tell you?
- It gives the code for a country, not the country of a whole number; for that, use the phone number country lookup.
- Exit codes are the default for each country; some carriers use their own, and Brazil's include a carrier code.
- A code tells you nothing about whether a number exists or is in service.
- Shared codes such as +1 need the area code to tell countries apart, and the tool only narrows by leading digits the data records.
Common questions
- What country calling code is 44?
- +44 is the United Kingdom. Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man use it too. From abroad, drop the leading 0 of a UK number: 020 7946 0958 becomes +44 20 7946 0958.
- What country calling code is 63?
- +63 is the Philippines. A Philippine mobile written 0917 123 4567 at home is +63 917 123 4567 internationally, without the leading 0.
- What is the country calling code for the USA?
- +1. The United States shares it with Canada and the Caribbean countries of the North American Numbering Plan, so the area code tells you which country a +1 number is in.
- Is the country code the same for the US and Canada?
- Yes. Both use +1 as part of the North American Numbering Plan, and calls between them are dialled 1 + area code + number, with no international exit code.
- Which country code is 234?
- +234 is Nigeria. Nigerian numbers drop their leading 0 after the code: 0803 123 4567 becomes +234 803 123 4567.
- Does the country code replace the 0?
- In most countries, yes: the leading 0 is a trunk prefix for domestic calls and is dropped after the country code. Italy is the main exception; its landlines keep the 0.
- How do I write a phone number with a country code?
- Write + then the country code, then the national number without its trunk prefix: +44 20 7946 0958. Without spaces, +442079460958, it is the E.164 format most software expects.
- How many country codes are there?
- Just over 200 calling codes, covering about 245 countries and territories, because several are shared, such as +1 across North America and +7 for Russia and Kazakhstan.

The numbering plan only knows what a range was issued for.
In the US and Canada mobiles and landlines share the same prefixes, and anywhere a number can be ported or reassigned the range stops telling the whole story. A live carrier lookup asks the network data instead, which is what the Email + Phone plan adds.
- 5,000 live carrier lookups a month: real line type, including US numbers
- Carrier name for every number looked up
- Upload a CSV up to 100,000 rows; emails in the same file get a mailbox check
