What is a role-based email address and should I send to it?
A role-based address belongs to a function, not a person: info@, sales@, support@, admin@. They can reach several people, none of whom chose to hear from you, and they suit cold outreach poorly. Avoid them on cold lists, and keep them for transactional or opt-in mail where the function is the right recipient.
Why they are flagged
A shared inbox has no single reader who chose to hear from you, and anyone on it can report your message as spam, which counts against your complaint rate. Many platforms and verifiers flag them so you can exclude them. They are valid for the purposes they exist for, such as sending an invoice to billing@.

- No. The mailbox may exist and work; the risk is complaints and low engagement, not bounces.

Figures marked as ours come from SimpleVerifier’s own dated tests on made-up addresses, published with their data on the research page. No customer data is used, and we publish no accuracy percentage because we have no independent measurement to back one.
Do it now
Test it on a real address first
Type any address. It gets the same check the paid plans run: syntax, the domain’s mail servers and, where the provider allows it, a live mailbox check. Nothing is sent to the address.
Five checks a minute, no account needed. Nothing is sent to the address — we ask its mail server whether the mailbox exists, then disconnect.
