Bulk nameserver lookup: who hosts DNS for these domains?

A bulk nameserver lookup reads the NS records of many domains at once and shows who runs each domain's DNS. This one names the company behind every nameserver, such as Cloudflare, Amazon Route 53, GoDaddy, Namecheap or a web host, marks domains on a parking service's nameservers, and lists any nameserver it doesn't recognise.

DNS lookups only; nothing is sent to the domains. 100 domains a run, or 500 when you sign in.

How do I look up the nameservers of many domains at once?

  1. Paste up to 100 domains, one per line (500 when signed in with Google), or upload a CSV. Email addresses and URLs are reduced to their domain.
  2. Press Look up nameservers. One NS query per domain is sent to DNS, 25 domains at a time.
  3. Read each row: the DNS host, its type (DNS provider, registrar, web host or parking service) and the nameservers.
  4. Pick a DNS host to see only its domains, then download the CSV.

Example

You enter
Three domains: acme.example, globex.example and shop.initech.example.
You get
acme.example: Cloudflare (ada.ns.cloudflare.com, bob.ns.cloudflare.com). globex.example: Sedo's parking nameservers, marked Parking service. shop.initech.example has no NS records of its own, so its parent zone initech.example is read: Amazon Route 53. Download the CSV.
Limits
Up to 100 domains a run without an account and 500 when signed in with Google. DNS only.

What does a domain's nameserver tell you?

Who answers DNS for it, and so where its records are edited. Nameservers on cloudflare.com mean Cloudflare; awsdns- hosts mean Amazon Route 53; domaincontrol.com is GoDaddy's default DNS and registrar-servers.com Namecheap's. A web host's nameservers usually mean the site was set up through that host. Nameservers on a parking service such as Sedo or Bodis mean nobody runs a site or mail on the domain.

Large companies often run their own nameservers on their own domain, shown as "Its own nameservers". Two providers on one domain usually means redundancy or a migration in progress.

What about subdomains?

A subdomain such as shop.acme.com rarely has NS records of its own; it lives in its parent's zone. When a subdomain has none, the lookup reads the parent's and shows which zone answered. A subdomain delegated to another provider shows that provider instead.

Why is a nameserver not recognised?

About 40 providers are matched by the host names they give their customers. Smaller hosts, regional registrars and company-run nameservers on another domain don't match, and are listed as they are rather than guessed.

Agencies and IT teams

What can’t this tool tell you?

  • About 40 providers are named; others are listed as not recognised.
  • Nameservers show who serves DNS, not who registered the domain or hosts the website.
  • A subdomain without its own NS records is shown with its parent zone.
  • Up to 100 domains a run without an account, 500 signed in.

Common questions

How do I find who hosts DNS for a domain?
Look up its NS records. The host names show the provider: cloudflare.com for Cloudflare, awsdns- for Route 53, domaincontrol.com for GoDaddy. This lookup names them for you, for a whole list at once.
Is a nameserver lookup the same as a WHOIS lookup?
No. NS records come from live DNS and show who answers for the domain now. WHOIS or RDAP shows the registration (registrar, dates), which can list the same nameservers but isn't where DNS is served from.
Is this bulk NS lookup free?
Yes. It's a free tool with no card: 100 domains a run without an account and 500 when signed in with Google.
How do I spot parked domains in a list?
Parked domains often use a parking service's nameservers. Those rows are marked Parking service. For parked pages served from ordinary DNS, use the bulk website status checker.
Can I export the results?
Yes. The CSV has one row per domain: the zone read, DNS host, host type, every nameserver and any that weren't recognised.

Authentication and capacity are half of deliverability.

The other half is who you send to. Every hard bounce counts against the domain and inboxes you are sending from, and nothing in DNS can tell you which addresses on your list are dead.
