How often should you clean your email list?

Re-verify any address you have not verified or successfully mailed in the last three months, right before you send to it, and verify every new address when it joins. Cold B2B lists should be checked before every campaign. Lists you mail weekly mostly clean themselves through bounce suppression.

Schedule by trigger, not by calendar

What matters is how long it has been since you last knew the address worked. People change jobs and providers close inactive mailboxes, and neither is visible until you check or send. SimpleVerifier returns results confirmed in the last 14 days instantly from cache, because a confirmed mailbox can still be closed later.

  • New signups: verify at entry (a form check or API call), so bad addresses never join.
  • Cold B2B lists: verify before every campaign.
  • Engaged newsletter lists mailed often: suppress hard bounces automatically and re-verify only addresses that have gone quiet.
  • Old or dormant lists: verify before any send, and warm up slowly after a long gap.

Is there a published figure for how fast B2B email data decays?
We have not found a primary-source figure for B2B email decay specifically, so we do not quote one. Our guide shows the job-turnover statistics that set the scale.

Figures marked as ours come from SimpleVerifier’s own dated tests on made-up addresses, published with their data on the research page. No customer data is used, and we publish no accuracy percentage because we have no independent measurement to back one.

Do it now

Test it on a real address first

Type any address. It gets the same check the paid plans run: syntax, the domain’s mail servers and, where the provider allows it, a live mailbox check. Nothing is sent to the address.

Five checks a minute, no account needed. Nothing is sent to the address — we ask its mail server whether the mailbox exists, then disconnect.
