Numverify Alternatives: Phone Validation Compared on Price and What You Get
If Numverify does the job, the main reason to switch is not price. At $14.99 a month for 5,000 requests it was the cheapest paid tier we compared in October 2026. People move away from it when they need live carrier data for US numbers, a CSV upload instead of an API, or email verification in the same place. This page compares the alternatives on those three things.
Numverify's terms, as of October 2026
From Numverify's pricing page:
- $14.99 a month on the plan we compared, capped at 5,000 requests.
- REST API: send one number, get back JSON with validity, international format, country, location, carrier and line type.
- No bulk upload: you write the loop yourself.
For a developer validating numbers as they come in through a form, that is a good deal. For a marketer with a 20,000-row CSV, it means writing code first.
Price at about 5,000 numbers a month
| Tool | Monthly price | What it covers | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Numverify | $14.99 | 5,000 request cap | API only |
| Abstract API | $19 | 5,000 request cap | API only |
| ClearoutPhone | $31 | Credit-based | Bulk upload available |
| Veriphone | $39 | 10 credits per live lookup | Plan needed for 5,000 live lookups |
| Twilio Lookup | $40 | $0.008 per lookup × 5,000 | Pay as you go, API only |
| Byteplant | $489.90 | 10,000 minimum tier | Smallest monthly tier is 10,000 |
| SimpleVerifier Email + Phone | $49.99 | 5,000 live lookups + unlimited email verification | CSV upload |
Prices fetched from each vendor's pricing page on 11 October 2026. Twilio's figure is arithmetic on its per-request price, not a plan.
Read the table honestly: if you only validate phone numbers through an API, Numverify and Abstract are cheaper than us, and Twilio is cheaper too. Our plan costs more because it is a different bundle.
What "line type" means at each price
The cheap tiers mostly answer from numbering-plan data; live carrier lookups cost more to run. That difference matters a lot in one place: the US and Canada.
Outside North America, mobile numbers have their own prefixes, so any validator can tell a UK 07 mobile from a London 020 landline. In North America, mobiles and landlines share area codes and can be ported between each other, so the digits alone can't say which is which. We cover why in mobile vs landline lookup.
| Question | Numbering-plan data | Live carrier lookup |
|---|---|---|
| Is the number in an allocated range? | Yes | Yes |
| Country and E.164 format | Yes | Yes |
| Mobile vs landline outside North America | Yes, by range | Yes |
| Mobile vs landline in the US and Canada | No | Yes |
| Current carrier after a port | No | Yes |
| Is someone answering it? | No | No |
Before choosing on price, check which column a tool's line type comes from. Ask the vendor or test a few ported numbers you know.
The alternatives, one by one
Abstract API is the closest like-for-like swap: a JSON API with a request cap, at a few dollars more. Choose it if you already use other Abstract APIs.
Twilio Lookup is the default for teams already sending SMS through Twilio. Pay-as-you-go pricing suits uneven volume, and line type intelligence comes from live carrier data. At 5,000 lookups a month it costs about $40, with no email checks. See Twilio Lookup alternatives.
Veriphone sells credits, and a live lookup costs 10 of them. Its $39 plan was the one that covered 5,000 live lookups in our comparison.
ClearoutPhone is the only phone-only tool here with a bulk upload as a first-class feature, at $31 on the credit plan we compared. A good pick if you want a dashboard rather than an API.
Byteplant is built for large volume. Its smallest monthly tier is 10,000 numbers at $489.90, which is far more than most small teams need.
When a bundle makes more sense
Most lead lists have an email column and a phone column. Validating the phones with one tool and the emails with another means two uploads, two bills and merging two result files back together.
That is the case SimpleVerifier is built for. Upload the CSV once on the verifier:
- Every email gets a live mailbox check with catch-all and disposable detection.
- Every phone gets validity, E.164 format, country and numbering-plan line type, at no per-number cost.
- On the Email + Phone plan, phones also get a live carrier lookup: real line type (mobile, landline or VoIP) and carrier name, up to 5,000 a month. Lookups that fail don't count against the allowance.
You get your original columns back with the new ones added. If you only verify emails, the Pro plan is $29.99 and still includes unlimited phone format checks.
If you need a phone API for a signup form and nothing else, Numverify or Abstract will cost you less. If you clean lists that hold both emails and phones, compare their price plus a $49 email verifier against one $49.99 plan.
Try a number first
The free phone number validator checks one number against its country's numbering plan in your browser: valid or not, E.164, country and line type. It's a quick way to see what the free layer gives you before paying for live data.

Common questions
Is there a cheaper alternative to Numverify?
At around 5,000 requests a month, not by much. Numverify's $14.99 plan was the cheapest paid tier in our October 2026 comparison. Abstract API charges $19 for a 5,000-request cap, ClearoutPhone $31 and Veriphone $39. If you only need format, country and numbering-plan line type, a free library like libphonenumber costs nothing.
What does Numverify actually check?
It validates a number against its country's numbering plan and returns the international format, country, location, carrier and line type. As with any lookup of this kind, valid means the number is in an allocated range, not that someone answers it.
Which phone validator also verifies emails?
Most phone APIs check numbers only. SimpleVerifier's Email + Phone plan, $49.99 a month, includes unlimited email verification plus 5,000 live carrier lookups, so a CSV with both columns is checked in one upload.
Do I need an API or a CSV upload?
If numbers arrive one at a time through a signup form, an API is the right shape. If you clean lists before campaigns or imports, a CSV upload that returns the same file with new columns is usually faster than writing code against an API.
