Verify Apify Google Maps Emails: What the Scraper Checks and What It Leaves to You
Apify's Google Maps Scraper verifies emails only for enriched leads; emails it scrapes from business websites still need your own check. Where verification runs, Apify adds an emailVerification object with ok, invalid, disposable, catch_all, unknown or error. Send ok named addresses first, drop invalid and disposable, and treat catch_all and unknown as risky. Merge all the email columns into one, keep one address per business, and run a live mailbox check on send day.
What Apify's scraper does with emails
From the Google Maps Scraper Actor page, read 8 November 2026:
- Website contacts (
scrapeContacts): enriches places "with contact details extracted from the business website, including business emails". The page warns that this returns personal data and you're responsible for having a legal basis. - Business leads enrichment: adds "employee names, job titles, emails" and more. It's off by default.
- Email verification (
verifyLeadsEnrichmentEmails): "each lead's email address is verified and anemailVerificationobject is added to the lead output." It "requires business leads enrichment to be enabled."
The statuses, as Apify defines them:
| Status | Apify's definition | Charged | What to do |
|---|---|---|---|
ok |
Valid, deliverable email address | Yes | Main batch if fresh |
invalid |
Invalid or non-existent email address | Yes | Drop |
disposable |
Disposable or temporary address | Yes | Drop |
catch_all |
Domain accepts all addresses; deliverability can't be confirmed | No | Risky: small separate batch |
unknown |
Result could not be determined | No | Re-check later |
error |
Technical error during verification | No | Re-check later |
Many other "Google Maps email extractor" Actors in Apify's store are community-built, with different methods and prices. Read the page of the one you use.
Why the output still needs a check
- Website emails aren't covered. The verification add-on applies to enriched leads, not the info@ address found on the business's contact page.
- Role inboxes and third parties. Local-business websites often show a shared inbox, a booking platform's address or the web designer's.
- Time. A run from last month is last month's answer.
- Catch-alls. Apify itself says these can't be confirmed. That's true for every verifier, which is why they need separate handling rather than a pass.
The pre-send routine
1. Merge and clean
Combine website emails and lead emails into one column with fill missing emails, normalise the rest with the Google Maps leads cleaner, and:
- Split cells with several emails using split multiple emails in a cell.
- Flag addresses whose domain doesn't match the website with the email website domain match checker.
- Keep one address per business with the primary email picker.
2. Verify everything not checked in the last day or two
Upload to the verify page. Every address gets a live SMTP mailbox check and a status with the reason: valid, risky (catch-all, role, disposable, mailbox full), invalid or unknown. SimpleVerifier grades catch-alls rather than passing them (catch-all scoring), which helps decide how many to send. The same upload validates phone numbers too.
3. Send in batches
- Valid named addresses first.
- Valid role addresses in a separate, slower campaign.
- Higher-grade catch-alls last, a few hundred at a time; stop if hard bounces in a batch pass 2%.

Common questions
Does Apify's Google Maps Scraper verify emails?
For business leads enrichment, yes: Apify says each lead's email is verified and an emailVerification object is added, but the add-on requires leads enrichment to be enabled. Emails scraped from the business website aren't covered by it, so verify those yourself.
What does catch_all mean in Apify's emailVerification?
Apify defines it as 'The domain accepts all addresses; individual deliverability cannot be confirmed'. Treat those addresses as risky: send them separately and in smaller numbers.
Are all Apify Google Maps email extractors the same?
No. Apify's store has many community-built Actors with their own methods and prices. This guide uses Apify's own Google Maps Scraper page; check the page of whichever Actor you run.
Should I send to 'ok' emails straight away?
If the run was in the last day or two, valid named addresses are a reasonable first batch. If the data is older, or the address is a role inbox like info@, check again before sending.
