Verify Outscraper Emails Before Cold Outreach to Local Businesses

··3 min read

Verify Outscraper emails on the day you send, and pick one good address per business first. Outscraper finds emails by crawling each Google Maps listing's website, and its optional Emails Validator runs an SMTP check, but website addresses are often old, shared role inboxes like info@, or the web developer's address. Dedupe to one address per business, drop obvious non-owners, run a live mailbox check, and send role and catch-all addresses in smaller separate batches.

How Outscraper gets emails

From Outscraper's enrichment services page, read 8 November 2026:

  • The Google Maps scraper collects listings, including their websites. The Emails & Contacts Scraper then "visits these crawled websites one by one and extracts email addresses and social media accounts".
  • Turning it on enables "ignore without emails" and "drop email duplicates", so you can keep only businesses with an email.
  • The Emails Validator is "ultimately a bulk email verification system". It checks format, searches blacklists, checks DNS records and checks "if email exists on the server by running SMTP requests". It "cannot be added to the Google Maps Data Scraper service by itself".

Why scraped local-business emails disappoint

Even when the address is technically valid, it may not reach anyone useful:

  1. Old addresses on old pages. A footer or contact page can show an address from before the business changed domain or provider.
  2. Role inboxes. info@, office@, bookings@ are shared, sometimes unmonitored, and some mailbox providers and sequencers treat them as higher risk for cold mail.
  3. Third-party addresses. Web designers, booking platforms and franchise head offices put their own email on local sites.
  4. Free-mail owners. Many small businesses run on Gmail or Outlook.com addresses. Those are fine to verify, but treat them as personal-style addresses when you write.
  5. Catch-all domains. Small-business domains on some hosts accept everything, so the mailbox can't be confirmed.

The pre-send routine

1. Clean the export

Use the Google Maps leads cleaner to normalise the Outscraper CSV (business name, website, phone, emails), then:

2. Verify

Upload to the verify page for a live SMTP mailbox check:

Status Action
Valid, named person Main campaign
Valid, role address Separate smaller campaign
Risky (catch-all) Small batch, best grades first
Invalid Drop; try the next address for that business if you had one
Unknown Re-check tomorrow

The same upload validates the phone column and writes numbers in E.164, which helps if you also call or text these businesses. SimpleVerifier reports catch-alls as risky with a grade, never valid (catch-all scoring).

3. Send carefully

Local-business lists are high-variance. Start with a few hundred valid named addresses, watch bounces and replies, then widen. Stop any batch whose hard bounces pass 2%. Cold email for local service businesses covers copy and volume for this audience.

Compliance

In the US, cold email to businesses falls under CAN-SPAM; see CAN-SPAM for cold email. In the UK, many small businesses are sole traders, and the ICO's PECR guidance treats sole traders and some partnerships as individual subscribers, which need consent; see PECR and UK cold email. In the EU, read GDPR for B2B cold email.

What checking costs

Common questions

Does Outscraper verify the emails it scrapes?

Only if you add its Emails Validator, which Outscraper says checks format, blacklists, DNS records and whether the email exists on the server via SMTP. It must run with the Emails & Contacts Scraper, not on its own. Re-check before sending if the export is more than a few days old.

Where do Outscraper emails come from?

From the businesses' own websites. Outscraper says the Maps scraper crawls each listing's website and the Emails & Contacts Scraper extracts emails and social accounts from those pages.

Why do Google Maps leads have so many info@ addresses?

Small businesses usually publish a general contact address on their site rather than the owner's. Those are real but often unread or shared; send them carefully and in smaller volumes.

Can I cold email local businesses from scraped lists?

Rules depend on the country. In the US, CAN-SPAM applies; in the UK and EU, PECR and GDPR do. Read our guides before sending.
