Cut the list before you pay for it
- Sample first. Verify 1,000 random rows with the email list sampler. If most come back invalid, don't buy 500,000 checks.
- Dedupe across sources with the duplicate email remover.
- Subtract suppressions (unsubscribes, past hard bounces) with compare email lists.
- Split into five files of 100,000 with the email list splitter, which keeps the header on each part.
How long it takes
A verifier that waits for real answers from mail servers is slow at scale; how long bulk verification takes explains why. On our shared capacity, lists run at about 30 addresses a minute averaged over a day, up to about 60 while the day's capacity lasts. For 500,000, that's roughly 6 to 12 days. Start with the newest or most valuable file and send its valid rows while the rest runs. If you need it all back within days, choose a vendor that publishes faster throughput.
Limits
No verifier can promise a bounce rate. A list this size will include catch-all domains, so expect a sizeable risky bucket; see send to catch-all emails?. Results age too, so re-check any file you haven't sent within a few weeks. For the next size up, see what it costs to verify 1 million emails; for a quarter of a million, verify 250,000 emails: cost.
