Klaviyo Account Disabled or Flagged for Review After an Import: What Klaviyo Checks and What to Fix
If the notice says the account is disabled, it's a review, not a ban: answer the compliance team, clean the uploaded list while you wait, and reschedule anything that was cancelled. Klaviyo says to expect feedback within 1 business day. If the notice says suspended, it's a failed payment, and paying the invoice re-enables the account automatically.

Which state you're in
| Notice | Cause | What lifts it |
|---|---|---|
| Disabled: flagged for review | Verification and compliance check, usually a new account's first send to an uploaded list | Compliance team approval; feedback expected within 1 business day |
| Disabled after campaign alerts | Repeated high hard bounces, unsubscribes or spam complaints | Details go to the primary account owner by email |
| Suspended | A payment couldn't be processed | Paying outstanding invoices; allow up to 1 hour after updating the card |
| Sending stopped at plan limit | Not a suspension | Upgrade, flexible sending, or the next billing cycle |
While disabled or suspended, Klaviyo sets flows to manual and stops updating segments; it restores the flow actions to live when the account is re-enabled. After a review is approved, campaigns cancelled during it need to be rescheduled.
Why an import triggers it
Klaviyo's anti-abuse article explains the logic: a few hard bounces are normal, but inbox providers read a large number as a sign the addresses were bought or scraped. Klaviyo's terms don't allow bought lists. And imports don't trigger double opt-in, so nothing between your CSV and the first campaign checks that the addresses are real or that the people asked for your mail. Klaviyo's own advice is to review imported contacts before sending to them.
Step by step
- Reply to the compliance team with how the contacts were collected: store checkout, signup forms, your previous email platform. Klaviyo's suggestions for avoiding review include integrating your ecommerce platform and your previous ESP and keeping business and billing details accurate.
- Export the uploaded list and check it before anything else goes out: the Klaviyo list cleaner takes a profiles export, or upload it on the verify page. Remove invalid results; keep risky and unknown out of the first campaigns.
- Bring over suppressions from your previous platform so unsubscribes and old bounces don't get mailed again.
- Build an engaged segment that requires email consent and recent engagement, as Klaviyo recommends, and send to it first. Opening an email isn't the same as subscribing.
- Turn on double opt-in for new signups.
- Reschedule the campaigns that were cancelled, starting with the engaged segment, then widen it.
Honest limits
Verification only answers whether an address can receive mail. It doesn't show consent, so it won't fix unsubscribe or complaint alerts on a list people didn't sign up for. Some results stay risky or unknown: catch-all domains accept any address and some providers don't answer clearly. And Klaviyo doesn't publish a bounce rate that triggers review, so treat any number you read elsewhere as a guess. If the alert came after a big send, what to do after a high bounce rate covers the first 48 hours. For the routine version, see how to clean a Klaviyo list.

Common questions
Why was my new Klaviyo account disabled?
Klaviyo's help centre says an account can be temporarily disabled after its verification and compliance team flags it, which typically happens when a new account first tries to send to an uploaded list. It's a one-time manual review; you keep access to the account but can't send email.
How long does Klaviyo's account review take?
Klaviyo says you should receive feedback within 1 business day, and to contact its Success Team if the review isn't complete in that time.
Can high bounce rates get a Klaviyo account disabled?
Yes. Klaviyo's anti-abuse article says repeated problems with hard bounces, unsubscribes or spam complaints can lead to account disablement, and that the primary account owner gets an email with details.
Does Klaviyo verify the emails I import?
No. Klaviyo suppresses an address after it hard bounces, but imports don't trigger double opt-in, and Klaviyo tells you to review imported contacts before sending to them.
