HubSpot Suspended Your Marketing Email: How the One-Time Appeal Works and What to Fix First

··3 min read

Before you click Start in the Health tab, quarantine or delete the contacts from the source that caused the bounces and verify the rest; HubSpot's appeal can be submitted only once. Removing the contacts that already bounced won't help on its own. HubSpot suppresses those automatically, and says so in the appeal.

Sources, read 2 November 2026: HubSpot's knowledge base articles Resolve email sending suspensions and Resolve an email sending probation, both updated 23 September 2026.

What triggered it

HubSpot's deliverability protection uses monthly thresholds:

Metric Suspension threshold
Hard bounce rate Above 5%
Spam report rate 0.1% (one per 1,000 emails sent)
Unsubscribe rate Above 3%

Spam traps, blocklisting, abuse complaints to HubSpot and repeated stopped sends can also cause a suspension. The Health tab may show a warning first. A marketing suspension stops marketing email, including workflow email; a separate suspension can stop one-to-one email from a HubSpot-hosted inbox. Everything else in HubSpot keeps working. HubSpot's 5% compares with 2% at Brevo; see bounce rate thresholds by platform.

What the appeal asks

You go to Marketing > Email > Health and click Start under How to Fix. The prompts ask you to:

  1. Acknowledge the submission can be made only once.
  2. Say whether you have contacts you haven't emailed in over 12 months.
  3. Select where your contacts came from and which sources need verifiable permission.
  4. Opt out, quarantine or delete the flagged contacts.
  5. Confirm you've dealt with contacts who never gave marketing permission, and how.
  6. Add context on what you fixed.

The Deliverability Team then replies with a decision or asks for more. HubSpot gives no timeframe for marketing email appeals.

Do this before you start

  1. Find the import or list behind the bounces: filter by create date or original source around the suspended send.
  2. Export that whole segment, not just the bounced contacts, and verify it on the verify page. The contacts that haven't bounced yet are the ones that matter now.
  3. Quarantine or delete invalid results and anything from a source without permission. The HubSpot email list checker takes a contacts export directly.
  4. Pull out contacts not emailed in 12 months. The appeal asks about them directly, and old addresses decay fastest.
  5. Write down the numbers: how many contacts were in the source, how many you removed, and why. That's your context field.
  6. Then run the appeal, and send the first emails back to your most engaged contacts.

Free accounts and probation

On free tools, HubSpot can place the account on email sending probation when deliverability metrics such as hard bounces fall below its thresholds. You click Review contacts in the banner, delete contacts who haven't consented (HubSpot also suggests removing those without a valid address) and confirm. Ignore it and it can become a full suspension, which on free accounts can't be lifted.

Honest limits

Verification answers whether an address exists; it says nothing about permission, so it won't help a suspension driven by spam reports or unsubscribes. Some addresses stay risky or unknown, because catch-all domains accept anything and some providers don't answer clearly. For keeping HubSpot clean afterwards, see cleaning bounced and invalid contacts in HubSpot.

Where SimpleVerifier fits

Verify the source segment before you appeal on the verify page. The first 100 checks are free with a Google sign-in. Pro is $39 a month with the first 100,000 checks a month at full speed, then slower, never cut off. See pricing.

Common questions

What bounce rate gets HubSpot email suspended?

HubSpot's knowledge base lists a monthly hard bounce rate above 5% as one trigger, alongside a spam report rate of 0.1% and an unsubscribe rate above 3%. Sending to spam traps, blocklisting and abuse complaints can also cause a suspension.

How many times can I appeal a HubSpot email suspension?

The marketing email appeal asks you to acknowledge that the submission can be made only once, so do the cleanup before you start it.

Will deleting bounced contacts lift a HubSpot suspension?

No. HubSpot says contacts that hard bounced, unsubscribed or marked email as spam are already suppressed automatically, and removing them alone won't restore sending. You need to deal with the contacts that haven't bounced yet but came from the same source.

Can a free HubSpot account get a suspension lifted?

No. HubSpot says suspensions on accounts using its free tools can't be lifted. Free accounts may get a probation first, which ends once you review your contacts.

Check your list before you send
