Verify a SignalHire Export Before Cold Email or Candidate Outreach

··3 min read

Re-verify a SignalHire export the day you send it, after choosing one address per person. SignalHire labels the emails it returns as verified, but it doesn't say how it treats catch-all domains, and the label is from whenever it last checked. Pick the work address where there is one, run every row through a live SMTP mailbox check, send valid rows first, hold catch-alls for a small second batch and suppress the invalid ones.

What SignalHire says

From SignalHire's pricing page, read 8 November 2026:

  • "Click the Get Contacts button to get phone numbers, verified emails and social networks."
  • "Clicking the button subtracts 1 contact if at least 1 email address or phone number is returned."
  • Plans are split into emails only, phone numbers only, and emails plus phones, with monthly, annual and unlimited options.
  • The unlimited packages carry a fair-usage policy: "your spending is limited to 2k credits per month."
  • The FAQ also says remaining credits can be used until the end of the billing cycle after you cancel.

Nothing on the page explains the verification method or catch-all handling. So treat "verified" as "verified when SignalHire last looked".

Why SignalHire lists bounce

  • People move. SignalHire is heavily used by recruiters precisely because people change jobs. The same churn means the work email on a profile can be dead by the time you send.
  • Catch-all company domains. These accept any address during a check, so a mailbox can't be confirmed. Some bounce later.
  • Several emails per person. If you send to every address on a row, you multiply your exposure to stale ones.
  • Time in your ATS or CRM. Contacts pulled months ago and reused for a new role or campaign.

The pre-send routine

1. Export and pick one address per person

Export contacts to CSV with the profile URL, name, company and every email column. Then:

2. Dedupe and cap

Remove duplicates with remove duplicate emails and cap contacts per company with limit contacts per company, so one employer doesn't get twenty emails from you in a day.

3. Verify

Upload to the verify page. Each address gets a live SMTP check:

Status Action
Valid Main sequence
Risky (catch-all) Small second batch, best grades first
Risky (role, disposable, full) Drop for outreach
Invalid Suppress
Unknown Re-check tomorrow

If an address comes back invalid and the row had a second address, verify that one instead. SimpleVerifier reports catch-alls as risky with a grade and the reason, never as valid (catch-all scoring).

4. Phones too

If the export has phone columns, the same upload validates them against each country's numbering plan and writes them in E.164. See verify emails and phone numbers together.

5. Send in waves

Valid rows first. Catch-alls a day later, a few hundred at most; stop if that wave's hard bounces pass 2%. Most cold email tools pause around that level (see bounce rate thresholds by platform).

Recruiters and agencies

If you're sourcing candidates or running outreach for clients, the same list can go out from several inboxes and several people. Verify once, share the cleaned file, and keep a single suppression list. Our guides for recruiters and staffing agencies cover the workflow, and email verification for teams explains shared seats. Personal addresses carry extra rules in some countries: read GDPR and B2B cold email first.

Common questions

Does SignalHire verify emails?

Its pricing FAQ says the Get Contacts button returns 'verified emails'. It doesn't describe the check or how catch-all domains are handled, so re-verify before a cold send.

Does SignalHire charge if no email is found?

Its FAQ says clicking Get Contacts subtracts 1 contact if at least one email address or phone number is returned. So a phone-only result still uses a credit.

Is SignalHire unlimited really unlimited?

Its unlimited packages are subject to a fair-usage policy. On 8 November 2026 the pricing page tooltip said spending is limited to 2,000 credits a month under that policy.

Should I email personal addresses from SignalHire?

For B2B sales, prefer the work address. Recruiters sometimes use personal addresses, but check the privacy rules where the candidate lives first; see our GDPR and CAN-SPAM guides.

Check your list before you send

Real mailbox checks over SMTP, and nothing is sent to the address. Sign in with Google and your first 100 email checks are free, no card. Plans for bigger lists are on the pricing page.
