How to Export Wix Contacts to an Email List (Keeping Subscription Status)
To get an email list out of Wix, export your contacts as a Regular CSV, then keep only the contacts whose email subscription status is Subscribed. In the dashboard that's Contacts > Import / Export > Export. Set Unsubscribed contacts aside for your suppression list, treat Never subscribed as no consent, merge repeats, and check the addresses before you import them into another email tool.
The free Wix contacts to email list tool sorts the export by status in your browser. Here is each step.
Step 1: export the contacts
Wix's help article Exporting your contacts (read 2 November 2026) gives the steps:
- Go to Contacts in your site's dashboard.
- Click the Import / Export drop-down.
- Click Export.
- Choose Selected Contacts or By Label.
- Choose the file format: Regular CSV.
- Confirm and save the file.
The same article says "You can export up to 50,000 site contacts at once to a CSV file", and that only the site owner can export. For a bigger list, export one label at a time.
Pick Regular CSV. The article says the Google CSV format doesn't support "email subscription status, SMS subscription status, language, and created date". Choose it and the one column you need for consent is gone.
Column names aren't documented. Wix doesn't list the Regular CSV headers, so look at your file before filtering. The Wix tool finds the email and status columns by name and says which one it read.
Step 2: sort by email subscription status
Wix keeps one contact list for everyone who touched your site: form senders, bookings, store customers, members and imports. Its help on changing a contact's subscription status names three statuses:
| Status | What Wix says | For a newsletter |
|---|---|---|
| Subscribed | The contact opted in to your mailing list | Send |
| Unsubscribed | The contact opted out | Never send. Put the address in your new tool's suppression list |
| Never subscribed | "Contacts who interacted with your site but did not opt in to your mailing list" | Don't send marketing; invite them to subscribe first |
Wix's developer API also has pending and not-set values, so your file may show other wording. Treat anything that isn't clearly subscribed as no consent. In the US, the FTC's CAN-SPAM guide sets the floor for commercial email; UK, EU and Canadian rules expect an opt-in.
Moving the list keeps its history: the next platform should get the Unsubscribed contacts as suppressed, so a future import of an old file can't put them back. The suppression list merger combines opt-outs from several sources into one file.
Step 3: merge repeats and keep labels
A person who booked, bought and filled in a form can show up more than once. Keep one row per address, and let an unsubscribe on any copy win. Combine labels from every copy into one column so you can rebuild segments (customers, members, leads) in the next tool. A cell holding two addresses should become two rows with the same status.
Step 4: check the addresses
Wix form fields accept typos and throwaway addresses, and a site that has collected contacts for years carries addresses that have since closed. A new email platform that sees a high bounce rate on its first campaign may slow or pause the account.
- Download the subscribed list from the Wix tool.
- Fix obvious domain typos with the email typo corrector.
- Upload the file on the verify page. Every address gets a live mailbox check, and valid, risky and invalid download as separate files.
- Import the valid file, with its status, into your email tool or back into Wix.
A check confirms the mailbox exists, not that the person opted in. Risky means unconfirmed: catch-all business domains and Microsoft's consumer domains (outlook.com, hotmail.com, live.com) often can't be confirmed either way. If you're switching platforms, our post on verifying a list before switching ESP covers the import side.
Where SimpleVerifier fits
Exporting and sorting are free and run in your browser; nothing is uploaded. For the mailbox check, upload the list on the verify page; the first 100 checks are free with a Google sign-in. Starter is $9 a month for 2,500 checks; Pro is $39 a month with the first 100,000 checks a month at full speed, then slower, never cut off. See pricing.
Common questions
How do I export my contact list from Wix?
In your site dashboard, open Contacts, click the Import / Export drop-down and choose Export. Pick selected contacts or a label, choose Regular CSV, confirm and save the file. Wix's help says up to 50,000 contacts can be exported at once.
What does Never subscribed mean in Wix?
Wix's help defines Never subscribed contacts as people who interacted with your site but did not opt in to your mailing list, for example by sending a contact form or booking. They are not subscribers; don't send them a newsletter without asking first.
Why is the subscription status missing from my Wix export?
You probably chose Google CSV. Wix's help says that format doesn't support email subscription status, SMS status, language or created date. Export again as Regular CSV.
Can I export only my Wix subscribers?
If subscribers have their own label, export by that label. Otherwise export all contacts and sort by the subscription status column afterwards.
Check your list before you send
Real mailbox checks over SMTP, and nothing is sent to the address. Sign in with Google and your first 100 email checks are free, no card. Plans for bigger lists are on the pricing page.
