ActiveCampaign Account Under Review After an Import? What Triggers It and What to Fix

··3 min read

An ActiveCampaign review usually traces back to one list. Its help centre says accounts go under review for high spam complaints or for too many bounces caught during campaign approval, and it names new and re-imported lists as the common source. Sending stops until the review is resolved, so the fix is to clean that list before the next campaign, not after.

Sources, read 2 November 2026: ActiveCampaign's help centre articles about account reviews and suspensions, why is my campaign pending approval or review, expediting your campaign approval process, how to reduce a high spam complaint rate and import contacts from a CSV file. The help centre blocks automated reads, so the details come from search-engine copies of those pages; check the live articles before quoting them to support.

What ActiveCampaign says

Topic Help centre
Review triggers High spam complaints (automatic), too many bounces during campaign approval, manual checks
During review Campaigns don't send until it's resolved
Complaint line 0.1%, one complaint per 1,000 messages
Bounce line Not published
Recency Don't send to anyone who hasn't opted in or opened in the past three months (complaint guide)
List creation You're asked how the addresses were obtained
Migrations Tell the deliverability team if you've moved from another service
Campaign approval Usually under 10 minutes when a campaign is pending
CSV duplicates Duplicate emails in a file are skipped; the first row is kept

Step by step

  1. Find the list that the reviewed campaign went to. It's usually the most recent import.
  2. Pull out bounces and unsubscribes from the old platform if this was a migration, and keep them out of the active list. The ActiveCampaign export steps show where the statuses are.
  3. Apply a recency cut. ActiveCampaign's complaint guide suggests not sending to people who haven't opted in or opened in three months. The inactive subscriber finder splits a list by last activity.
  4. Verify what's left on the verify page and remove invalid results. Keep risky and unknown results for a later, smaller send.
  5. Write the reply to the review: where the list came from, the consent wording, what you removed (counts, not addresses), and your sending plan.
  6. Restart small: the most recent, verified engagers first, then widen.

What verification can't fix

A verifier tells you which addresses accept mail. It can't tell you who agreed to hear from you. If complaints were the trigger, the cut is about consent and recency: old purchased or scraped lists will draw complaints even when every address verifies. Catch-all company domains and Microsoft consumer mailboxes (outlook.com, hotmail.com) also come back risky or unknown more often than other addresses; hold those until the account is clear. Complaint rate explains how the 0.1% is counted.

Where SimpleVerifier fits

Verify the list on the verify page; the first 100 checks are free with a Google sign-in. Pro is $39 a month with the first 100,000 checks a month at full speed, then slower, never cut off. If you're also trying to lower the ActiveCampaign bill, which contacts count toward your ESP bill covers its rules. See pricing.

Common questions

Why is my ActiveCampaign account under review?

Its help centre lists high spam complaint rates (detected automatically), too many bounces during campaign approval, and manual checks that find high spam rates alongside other warning signs. A review can also start from a terms issue found during campaign or import approval.

What bounce rate triggers an ActiveCampaign review?

ActiveCampaign doesn't publish a number. Third-party blogs quote 2% and 5%, but we couldn't find those figures in ActiveCampaign's own documentation. What it does publish is the complaint line: 0.1%, or one per 1,000 messages.

Can I keep sending while the account is under review?

No. Campaigns don't go out until the review is resolved. Reply to the review with how the list was collected, what you've removed, and how you'll send from here.

Does verification prevent an ActiveCampaign review?

It removes the addresses that would bounce, which is the bounce side of the review. It doesn't reduce complaints from people who never opted in or forgot you. That side needs consent records and a recency cut-off.
