Pipedrive Marketing Status Explained: Who to Leave Out When You Export People
In Pipedrive's People list, show the Email and Marketing status columns, export the filter results, and set aside every contact marked Unsubscribed or Bounced before the file goes to another sending tool. Pipedrive Campaigns already skips anyone who isn't Subscribed. A sequencer or a different ESP doesn't know about any of it unless the column comes with the file.
The seven marketing statuses
From Pipedrive's Campaigns marketing contacts article:
| Status | What Pipedrive says it means | In an outside send |
|---|---|---|
| No consent | The default for every contact | Not an opt-out, not permission either |
| Subscribed | Consented to receive emails | Consent recorded in Pipedrive |
| Unsubscribed | Clicked the footer unsubscribe link | Suppress |
| Bounced | Hard or soft bounced five times | Suppress |
| Pending upgrade | Subscribed contacts over your billing tier | Treat as Subscribed |
| Pending DOI | Haven't confirmed a double opt-in | Not confirmed; leave out of marketing sends |
| Archived | Email removed in the last 90 days while subscribed | Usually no address to send to |
Two details matter for exports. If several people share an address and one unsubscribes, all of them become Unsubscribed. And adding a new contact with an address that once unsubscribed marks it Unsubscribed again. So Pipedrive's own record is fairly complete. The risk is losing it on the way out.
Whether you can email No consent contacts at all depends on where they are and how you got the address. Our GDPR for B2B cold email and CAN-SPAM for cold email posts cover the main rules.
Export People with the column showing
Pipedrive's export guide gives two routes:
- List view: open Contacts > People, apply a filter, click the gear icon to choose columns (add Email and Marketing status), then click ... and Export filter results. Only the columns you show are exported, and only records you can see.
- Tools and apps > Export data: choose People, CSV or Excel, then download from Generated exports. This exports the whole list and is limited to global admins. Files stay available for 28 days.
Pipedrive doesn't say whether Marketing status appears in every export. Open the file and check before you rely on it.
Pull the suppression file
- In the People list view, click Add condition, choose Marketing status is Unsubscribed, and export. Do the same for Bounced.
- Combine the two files. The suppression list merger dedupes them and any other lists you already keep.
- Load the result into the blocklist of every outside tool you send from, before you import contacts into it.
Split the send list
- Export the audience you want to email, with Email and Marketing status showing.
- Upload it to the Pipedrive contacts to email list tool. Contacts marked Unsubscribed are always set aside; Subscribed or blank is never read as consent.
Person -prefixes on headings are stripped. - Email - Work is read first. Tick the option to add Email - Home and Email - Other as extra rows if you want them. For B2B outreach, the work address is usually the right one.
- Remove the Bounced file from the send list too. The compare email lists tool does it in one step. The Pipedrive export tool already sets aside contacts marked Unsubscribed or Bounced in the Marketing status column, so this step matters most when you clean the file another way.
Check what's left
Pipedrive marks Bounced only after five failed deliveries from Campaigns. Contacts you never emailed from Pipedrive have never been tested at all.
- Upload the send list at /verify. Every address gets a live mailbox check, valid, risky and invalid download separately, and catch-all domains are marked.
- Import only the valid file into the outside tool.
- To write the results back to Pipedrive so the next export is cleaner, follow how to verify email addresses in Pipedrive, which updates records in bulk by ID.
What the export misses
- Hidden columns. A list-view export has only what's on screen.
- Bounces from other tools. Bring them back to Pipedrive, or keep them in your master suppression file.
- Visibility. Exports include only records you're allowed to see. An admin export may contain opt-outs yours doesn't.
Where SimpleVerifier fits
The Pipedrive export tool is free and runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded until you choose to check the addresses. The live check is the paid part: the first 100 checks are free with a Google sign-in on the verify page. Pro is $39 a month with the first 100,000 checks a month at full speed, then slower, never cut off, and one-time packs of 10,000 checks for $15 never expire. See pricing.
Common questions
What does No consent mean in Pipedrive?
Pipedrive's help says all contacts have No consent by default. It means nobody recorded a subscription in Pipedrive. It isn't an opt-out, and it isn't permission either.
When does Pipedrive mark a contact Bounced?
Pipedrive's help says the marketing status becomes Bounced after emails hard-bounced or soft-bounced five times. It's driven by mail sent through Pipedrive Campaigns, so bounces in another sending tool won't show up.
If several people share one email address and one unsubscribes, what happens?
Pipedrive marks every contact with that address as Unsubscribed. Adding a new contact with a previously unsubscribed address also marks it Unsubscribed.
How do I export only Unsubscribed contacts from Pipedrive?
In the People list view, click Add condition, choose Marketing status is Unsubscribed, show the Email column, then use the three-dot menu and Export filter results. Repeat with Bounced.
